I agree- I think he has to win on xmas against Titans and have a big game to have a chance. Still will probably give it to Manning, especially if they go undefeated.

PR is a victim of circumstance and his own personality... Circumstance because he plays on the west coast, personality because he comes across is easy to dislike. He will have to win a SB before he well ever get real consideration for MVP. And of course it will have to be a subsequent season as the MVP is announced like a month before the Bowl.

    MVP discussion:
Philip Rivers is having another excellent season. He's destroying teams and protecting the ball very well. He IS the San Diego offense which is certainly lighting up the NFL.
Yeah but Peyton Manning is Peyton Manning.

Prisco is an Idiot, (look at his record at picking games, picked the saints to go 4-10 so far I think) but this I agree with:tup:

Especially because it is Manning and Brady's award to lose every year. The press has already decided it will be one of those two, so everyone else has to do something to take it away from them.

I think that's more coincidental than anything else. I don't buy into post hoc arguments.

This is the same flawed logic that leads people into believing the "madden curse".

That being said, I won't really care if PR wins it or not.

The 90's had a pretty good run of regular season MVPs also going on the win SBs.

But it seems that the last decade's drought has put things in perspective... at least for me.

The MVP, just like the Pro Bowl... is complete bullshit now. It's true I want Philip mentioned among the elite, but it's almost better that he doesn't get this award. At least, not yet.

I guarantee he will get at least one AFTER he gets his SB ring. Because then the world will know that he ain't just some bumpkin loudmouth with a funny sidearm delivery.

See, this is the part that I do not agree with.

Again, I don't really care whether or not he wins it. I only care about him (and the rest of his team) winning the Lombardi. The individual season MVP award really means nothing to me. It'd be a nice accolade for one of our players, but I'm sure we can all agree the Lombardi is more important.

But, back on point, while I don't care if he wins it or not I don't think it'd be better for him to not win it because there is no bad that can come from him winning it.

The last handful of players winning it and having their teams go on to not go all the way has no bearing on whether or not the Chargers can win a Super Bowl if Rivers were to win the MVP this year.

Now that it isn't a salary negotiating point, I really don't care.

Any real meaning that this award or the Pro Bowl once had has long since been lost to pop culture & knob slobberers.

When this happened, the probowl lost all credibility.

I would love to see PR win the MVP award at some point, just like LT did in 2006. I'd like to see our players get an award like this. But if he doesn't win it, I won't lose sleep over it, but I will, and have lost sleep over the past non SB seasons. That SB trophy is 100% more important, but I would never say I don't care if PR never wins it. I would like to see him win it.

He would have won it in 2008 if the Bolts were not 8-8, but instead 12-4, or 13-3. He definitely had the stats.
