Linebacker Shaun Phillips sat out Friday night's practice as the Chargers practiced under the Qualcomm Stadium lights in preparation for Sunday night's game against the New York Giants.

Phillips, who plays on passing downs and has one sack this year, is nursing a strained left calf. He injured it in Wednesday's workout and then skipped Thursday's practice.

"We're just being smart about it," said Phillips, who is listed as questionable. "I still got two days and I wouldn't say it doesn't look good for Sunday."

Others not practicing were left guard Toniu Fonoti (broken hand) and wide receiver Vincent Jackson (strained calf). Fonoti will be replaced in the lineup by Kris Dielman, who'll be making his first NFL start.
