    CHARGERS SIGN A PAIR
Posted by Mike Florio on September 1, 2008, 1:53 p.m.

As the NFL rosters churn in the wake of Saturday’s entry of 700 players onto the market, the Chargers have acquired two veteran players.

The team has announced the addition of tight end Kris Wilson and offensive lineman Kynan Forney.

Wilson was recently cut by the Eagles, with whom he signed as a free agent after breaking in with the Chiefs. Forney was released by the Falcons.

To create room for the two new players, the Bolts dumped fullback Andrew Pinnock and placed center Cory Withrow on the injured reserve list.

Wow...didn't think they were going to dump Pinnock outright.

Why the heck didn't they just do this ahead of time with Pinnock especially if they wanted to keep Marcus Thomas?

Sorry to hear about Withrow, I guess Mrzucowski will take over as backup center until Hardwick returns. Forney's a guard

This is what I'm thinking too. I don't see the logic in losing Marcus Thomas when Pinnock was dispensable all the time. I mean Corey Clark and DeJuan Tribble are in ahead of Pinnock effectively jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez.

I guess I'm just gonna have to go with AJ's judgement here.

Withrow is no loss, he was always a 'lightweight' in my opinion.

I didn't think Pinnock would make the final cut.

Also heard somewhere that Withrow's hammie was not good.

I'm more upset about losing Divens than Thomas, to be honest. Sure hope Jamal has a healthy year & McKinney switches it on for the regular season.

the timing was bad, but then again i don't think AJ, as i mentioned before, was expecting teams to raid his cuts and practice squad

Not sure what you are saying here but all I was doing was reacting to something that on the face of it did not make sense.

We lost LT's backup, who was a 'bigger' running back. Looks like we will end up trying to replace him with Sproles (tiny) and Hester (rookie FB). Sproles is an injury waiting to happen on punt returns.

Instead we could have had Marcus Thomas, who in size/style/resume might have been a better bet than the guys we are left with.

For the record I never saw Pinnock as a guy who could spell LT with many carries at the end of games.

I don't question the timing at all. Norv said in his news conference on Saturday that he was expecting 3-4 more roster-moves after the initial cuts were made. I think the Chargers were just waiting to see who hit the market.

Forney's a solid get. An 8-year veteran who is only 29 and was the best blocker on that Falcons line as recently as '07. They're in a youth-movement in Atlanta, so I think we benefit by adding a solid veteran to our o-line depth. It also gives us some insurance for the eventuality that we can't sign Mike Goff to an extension.

Kris Wilson's a guy who showed promise behind Tony Gonzales in KC. We needed to pick up somebody with some potential there with the loss of Chandler.

I think it's now clear Chandler's injury was real, and not just a ploy to squeeze someone else on the roster, especially since we didn't bring in a TE for the practice-squad.

In his Saturday news conference, Norv said Nick has been running pain free and has started doing some change-of-direction stuff, and that's why they took him off PUP; they expect him to be back "much sooner" than the PUP window.

On a side-note, our medical staff has been pretty damned on-the-money when it comes to the time frames they've given for players to return from injuries.

That's excellent. If we can get him back by the Oakland or Miami game he'll have a chance to shake off the rust before the Patriots game.

OT: Does anyone have a pic of Hardwick walking onto the Redskins field to the chorus of boos? It was a picture of attitude.

No big surprise here. They probably didn't know for certain the severity of Withrow's injury until yesterday. And Pinnock was just a place holder. I like it.

I think AJ and Turner see more potential in Mike Tolbert, so
    Thomas and Pinnock are dispensable.
To help injured Hardwick and Withrow we got Jeremy Newberry. I didn't saw enough preseason, but I don't think
he's the straight Center. Wish Scott can fill rght into the spot.

Unnecessary arrogance - one dozen tacos.

Best Charger news in days, IMO. If Newberry can just be the guy for 2-3 games, we may be golden.
