We gave Harland Svare three seasons?

Since when were fans in charge of hiring and firing?

I mean, I get the customer satisfaction angle that can be pulled in response to my rhetorical question, but if the demands of fans directly affected hiring and firing of head coaches, like it or not, Norv Turner wouldn't have lasted as long as he did. Or AJ Smith for that matter.

Not surprising Miami and Baltimore have the best odds. Baltimore controls their destiny for it while Miami has the easier schedule of the two and only needs one loss from another team.

I didn't like the punt either but I also don't agree with nitpicking decisions that worked, at least not from the perspective of a fan.

For starters, even the best coaches in the world will make moves you can argue were "wrong" even though they worked. Mike Shanahan going for the 2 point conversion to win the game in Hochuli-gate comes to mind. I'm sure the percentages say that's the wrong move 9 times out of 10, but he took the gamble and it worked.

Secondly, as somebody who's not in direct charge of whether or not McCoy keeps his job I feel it's a wasted effort on my part to dissect his job to that degree.

If they fail I'll play arm chair GM and analyze his decisions all day long, but if they win I prefer to just sit back and enjoy it.

I'm not saying anyone else is right or wrong for doing so. I'm just explaining my perspective.

Regarding Hochuli's debacle in that game in Denver, Shanarat went for the 2 points to redeem the Broncos and so to justify that his team deserved to win, yet giving the Chargers another chance for their own redemption.

A much more gutsier call was made by Sean Payton in SB XLIV when he started the 2nd half with an onside kick which was recovered by the Saints against the then P. Manning lead Colts ;)

That doesn't change the percentages of whether you kick all but automatic XP and go to OT or go for 2 and risk losing the game right there.

It's still a relevant comparison to my point. But so is Payton's Super Bowl call.

I mean, regarding the call, while I didn't agree with it let's not forget it was still a would-be 55 yard field goal attempt.

Yeah, it's in Denver, but that doesn't make a 55 yard attempt a guarantee and if he misses the FG he's giving that same Peyton Manning that we're saying it was stupid to hand the ball to the ball with much MUCH better field position than what we actually gave him.

Again, I don't agree with the call, but let's not pretend we're discussing a guaranteed 3 points here.

we're not discussing guarantee anything...just the odds and what the right call is.

Leo, I don't think that that's an unreasonable perspective…but I still do not agree with it.

There's a good reason drunk driving is illegal. Sure, Dick Cheney didn't kill anybody the two times
he was cited for it (hey, admitting you shot an old man in the face doesn't even harm that guy's career!) :whistling:
or the countless other times Cheney presumably did it and was not caught.
Amazingly--there are people who say that (since no innocents ended up dead) hey, "no harm, no foul."

The law punishes the bad decision to drive under the influence, regardless of whether the driver
happens to get lucky and not hit anyone on the way home from the bar.

Am I saying McCoy's decision is precisely the same as Cheney's choice to repeatedly drink and drive?

:roflmao: Yes, that is exactly what I'm saying. ;)

Percentage wise, McCoy made the correct decision as both Shanarat and Sean Payton didn't in those cited instances. However, the fruition of their decisions, moved the needle on the NFL percentometer by the size of ant's deek, in the other direction ;)

Leo we lost to Washington and the Raiders. IF we cant beat a team that we were supposed to beat, then we fall short at the end of the season. WE do not deserve to be there!

Don't forget 2-11 Houston, at home, after getting a 21 point lead.

No doubt about it, if we miss the playoffs it's our own damn fault, and if we make it it's because we fought hard to overcome our mistakes...and got a little outside help along the way.

Luckily, and unlike apparently 75% of the posters on Chargers boards, Barnwell doesn't have to cater to the SD audience...

Right. IF we fall short at the end of the season. Guess what? It's not the end of the season right now.

So, you sit back and be grumpy about should haves and could haves. I'll watch football and hope for things to go our way so I can hopefully watch Chargers football in the playoffs.

IF the end of the season rolls around and we're out, even at 9-7, I'll agree with you, but we're not there yet and we're not dead yet.

Well, Miami is beating NEw England right now. So our hopes might get dashed sooner than expected.

Never doubt the luck if Tom Brady in the 4th. They will benefit from a muffed punt or a fumbled snap or a bad call somewhere down the line.

I'm hoping so. Especially after the voodoo they pulled to win that Cleveland game.

Though, I still feel dirty rooting for the Patriots.

    20-17.

Told ya, never doubt Brady in the 4th. Now it's just up to the defense.
