Chargers LB Polk goes on injured reserve with shoulder injury

Chargers linebacker Carlos Polk was placed on the injured reserve list on Tuesday due to a shoulder injury that ended his season.

Polk was injured while making a tackle in Sunday's loss at Jacksonville.

Linebacker Jyles Tucker was promoted from the practice squad to take Polk's spot on the active roster.

That was a pretty violent hit he made on Jones-Drew and I love it when our guys bring it like that. Polk has taken a lot of criticism but he left it all on the line on that play.

I was down on Polk for most of his time in SD, but last year and this season he has played better than in the past in spot duty on defense, and he's had fewer mistakes on ST's. He'll never be starter material, but he has held his own for the most part on defense.

If you've ever heard him interviewed, he's a bright dude. I'd expect him to enter the media or become a coach (ST's/LB) after his playing days ..... maybe next year.

Polk has been playing well all season long on special teams. Laying the wood, his hit early in the Denver game gave Siller the TD.

I noticed that on every kickoff, he's ALWAYS around the ball.

But injuries often happen to those who play at 1000mph 100% of the time.

Fuq, Jones Drew is made of iron. Seriously, how much does Polk outweigh him? It was a nasty hit, and MoJo still saw the field after that. Iron....

It is about leverage. When he hit Polk and Merriman, both he was low and came up under them. He had the force and leverage to whackem.

The two were completely different plays. KO coverage is the most violent play in football. MoJo got lit up. Yet it's the guy that delivered the blow that is done for the year (who also outweighs the little guy by 50 pounds), and MoJo came back for more.

Your brain shifts in your skull on hits like that. Both players had snot bubbles coming out of their nose after that.

The dude is made of fricken iron. You gotta love him.

If I was a Jax Fan, that would be my favorite player.

I am not saying he is not tough. I am giving him props by saying he also knows how to use his leverage. And he is a tough little ******.

Polk has been stellar on STs. Has been a solid backup. Will be missed.

We will see what the younger guys bring now I guess.

I was down on Polk last year since it seemed he was always getting a silly penalty when he was playing D. Offsides was a common thing.

This year he has been playing well and that hit on KO was :icon_eek:. I have to give him PROPS. Dude put it all out there when he played. Not the most skilled in pass coverage, but he could light people up.

    Heal up soon Mr. Polk.

Polk, Eric Castled himself on that hit. Giving it all can turn around and bite you sometimes.

Hear hear, I often wondered what AJ saw in him to keep him after all the injuries. We saw it this year. However, he may have played his last play as a Charger. What a way to go out. Best of luck in the future Carlos!. :icon_toast:

Siler is an inside LB. Polk was a backup OLB, and Tucker will replace Polk at the backup OLB.
