So that means we must play the Niners week 1?

No. Our last pre-season game has always been vs. SF. The regular season starts on 9/10 this year.

    Nothing unusual about that.

It was a joke because last year we played the Cards week 4 pre-season and week 1 reg season (two weeks in a row)
...I pray the dumb NFL doesn't screw us again this year...

Well, considering the Chargers don't play any of those 4 teams in the regular season this year I suspect they won't be playing any of them in back to back weeks between the end of the preseason and week 1.

Why oh why is it the same old teams? Come on lets change it up, I want to see Green Bay and New England every now and then.

Its the same thing in the regular season. We're gonna open the season @Oakand on the backend of a doubleheader MNF game with the B squad at commentary. We didn't even get a shot at the HOF Game with Seau being inducted.

I've always wondered why they play the same 3 NFC West teams every preseason....but then I remember I don't give a **** about the preseason enough to really care.

It's probably a travel related thing.

It is a deal of sorts, made by the respective organizations.

Yes, SF, SEA, and AZ are all somewhat close together for short travel. I think the Cowboys train out here at Thousand Oaks or Oxnard, so they are already out here as well. I love getting the Cowboys because I don't want to go but there are enough Cowboys fans around that I can actually sell my preseason tickets for a decent price.

Man, if the NFL is scheduling preseason games simply based on shorter travel times, they're really mailing it in. Speaks volumes about their attitude toward the importance of the games and how they couldn't really give a s4it about getting the fans pumped up for the regular season.

Watching a bunch of third stringers play in the preseason hardly dictates how much I do or do not get excited about the regular season, so that's probably sound strategy.

MNF: San Diego Chargers @ Oakland Raiders <- Explain this as travel concerns?

Oh I know but I'm just getting across the point that it's the same thing in the regular season. The Chargers are also the top 5 most traveled team, wouldn't expect that to change this season.

The regular season opponents outside of the divisional opponents change on a yearly basis like clockwork.

But I will admit that they do seem to love putting us against Oakland in week 1 MNF....but I also don't care about that like you seem to.

Always excited for preseason... Until about 15 minutes into it.

Then I am excited for it to end...

Seriously, I like the late night MNF opener.

I can watch the Sunday games without the anxious anticipation of what's about to happen in the Charger game that same day tarnishing it and just enjoy them.

Meanwhile (and this is admittedly unique to my situation) I can get home just in time with the Charger opener still going on Monday...typically having to catch up a bit with my DVR.

The geographical location of San Diego is the reason why it's always going to be one of the top traveling teams.
