    Why WOW?

I think this is well-deserved praise.

WOW considering he plays in the same Conference as Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, and Carson Palmer. And the fact that he is a first year starter.

To get that kind of statement from Peter King is HUGE praise.

So King is saying that Rivers will just as good as Steve McNair in '05?

That's not really saying too much.

TK, I think King is saying that in a year or 2 Rivers will be the BEST QB in the league!!! :icon_toast:

Ya know I did have my doubts about letting Brees go, but DAMN!! Rivers is the MAN!!!!

If Rivers has a 3:1 TD to INT ratio and completes close to 70% of his passes on a top scoring offense, he should be in the pro bowl.

Rivers has a higher pass percentage than Palmer. And he has as many TDs as Palmer with half as many INTs.

His numbers are comparable to Peyton. Peyton has one more TD, but Philip has a better comp. percentage and a higher passer rating.

Rivers' comp. % is 15 points higher than Brady's, as is his passer rating.

If the praise is earned, why is it shocking?

Because all the "experts" thought we would take a step back with Rivers. Now they are finding out that AJ is GOD!! and he knows all!!!

Philip has numbers as good as or better than all three of those guys, and he just got handed the keys to the car about five minutes ago.

The one stat where those guys were killing PR was yards, but he has quickly closed that gap. He now has more yards than Brady (statistically he's quite a bit better than Brady) and is not as far behind Manning and Palmer as most people probably think. All three of those guys have hit some bumps in the road while PR's performance is on the rise.

So all the experts were wrong. What else is new?

None of this is a shock to me. It's what I predicted--Rivers is the second-coming of Dan Marino. Some will say it's too soon to say that, and to those people, I say just wait. If he hasn't proven it to you yet, he will.

Funny thing is.. Brees is also playing Pro Bowl worthyness in the NFC. Lets hope he gets in and leaves Eli out. Revenge by proxy!

It's not so much that King or the "experts" were wrong, but they actually admit it.

    Edit:

He better not be the 2nd coming of Marino. Dan only went to 1 super bowl...

PR could put up the greatest individual passing season in history and have all the analysts from ESPN, Sports Illustrated, and NFL Network bowing before him, and it would have no effect on who gets in from the NFC.

Actually, it wasn't the "proxy" part that threw me off. It was that I missed the "Brees" part and thought he was talking about Rivers. Sorry about that Kitsune-udon.

The way Brees is playing I wouldn't doubt it.

I think Grossman, McNabb and Brees. Those are the 3 QB's tearing up the NFC this year.

Isn't it typical that we could only find one decent starting QB for about 15 years, and then all-of-a-sudden we get two at one time?

Right now it's looking like no matter what decision AJ had made in the Brees / Rivers duscussion it would have been a good one. I'm glad we have PR, though, because his upside appears to be very high.

    Why?

If I couldn't handle snotty I would've killed a couple posters at CMB a long time ago. That being said, the thing that came to mind when I read that was, "how dare you challenge my reading comprehen--oooops..."
