OK, this comes up from time to time. Most of us dislike announcers, various reasons. Some it is because they seem to dislike the Chargers, or homer on their previous teams.

So lets attack this another way.

    How do you like? Why?

Electrified minds want to know...

Ron Jaworski, because he's savvy about the intricacies of the game, communicates his point wthout pontificating, and unlike MOST other announcers, isn't in love with the sound of his own voice and determined to blab constantly. He says something when he has something to say.

I think Nantz & Sims top them all. On Fox, Buck & Aikman are good. The two color analysts that surprised me how good they are:Rich Gannon on CBS and Brian Billick on Fox. Yeah, Gannon is an ex-Raider. But he's good.

the only announcers I actually notice during a game are Madden and Marv Albert.

When I watch a Chargers game I want an announcer that tell me what I need to know about the game and goes unnoticed the rest of the game (if that makes sense :icon_shrug: )

Dick Vermiel hands down. He called the Bolts v Retards opener a couple of years ago and he really illuminated the dynamics of the game. Smart, insightful, articulate, funny. Best color guy I've heard.

Yep. The team broadcasting that game was great (IIRC, Ron Jaworsky was the other color guy. Can't remember the play-by-play guy).

too bad there is such a big delay (7 seconds) between the live feed and the radio call. I used to love to be able to turn down the TV and listen to the radio side while watching the game.

You can still do it from what I hear, but you need a DVR to do it.

Satellite is even worse, it's 3 seconds behind radio. Throw in another second if you have a DVR.

Jaworski is one of the top ones now. Aikman's good too. The Aikman/Joe Buck team is one of the best ones, but sometimes they sound a lot alike.

Another guy I like is Moose Johnston. With all the freakin' 90's Cowboys on TV (Aikman, Irvin, Jimmy Johnson, Deion, and embarrassingly, Emmitt), he is the most humble with tons of insight on blocking and linework. And he has a good TV voice too.

I remember Vermeil being good too. Phil Simms does well, but I can't stand his huckleberry accent. Same with Boomer Esaison I think, but they're both pretty good.

Collinsworth might be good, but with him, Costas, and Sterling Sharpe working together on NBC, u can SMELL the douchery. Collinsworth was the whipping boy on FOX's pregame when Terry, Howie, and JB were all there. He seems so damn smug sometimes.

Dierdorf is garbage. Kornheiser is garbage. Theisman is garbage.

Can you slow the DVR down enough to compensate for that delay?

I'm among the 55% of viewers who found Howad Cossell completely insufferable.

Cossell = Quacksaw on steroids, arrogance-wise.

I'm with you. I was thrilled when he finally left Monday night football.

He also did boxing, and shortly after Duk Koo Kim died fighting Ray Mancini, Cosell did the one-sided Larry Holmes vs Randall Tex Cobb fight. Obviously overreacting because of Kim's death, Cosell spent pretty much the entire fight saying it should be stopped, that it was a travesty, blah blah. Cosell was so outraged that he said he would never call another fight. When told about Cosell's comments, Cobb got off one of my favorite lines ever. (Paraphrasing) "I'll go 15 more rounds with Larry if he'll stop doing football."
