No surprise, really, but the Oakland Raiders have placed the franchise tag on defensive end Richard Seymour, the Boston Herald reports, and NFL Network’s Michael Lombardi has confirmed. That means Seymour will be retained at a cost of $12.398 million for 2010 if the two sides can’t agree in a long-term deal.
The Raiders and Seymour have been involved in ongoing talks for a while, in hopes of figuring out a deal for the five-time Pro Bowler who just completed his ninth season.
One would figure the Raiders want to lock up Seymour long term, considering price they paid to acquire him. One week before the season began, Oakland traded its 2011 first-round draft choice to New Englannd in order to obtain Seymour, 30, who was in the final year of his contract.

Seymour is gonna get BANK with the Raiders. He's never going to sign with them, why would he? They're going to have to franchise him again next season. Now he's in a position where he can just play good and collect the dollars from Al Davis. I see him going back to the Patriots at some point.

I wonder if the Raiders will continue the NFL-record streak of 11-loss seasons.:icon_huh: If they keep starting JaMarcus Russell, I can't see them getting any better.

    No cap in 2010.

All he is doing is eating more of Al's $$$ which will likely force him to sell off more minority shares in the team like he did when he signed all those FA busts a 2-3 years ago.

    Long Live AL!

NO! Why would we want sane people owning a greater share of Al's team????
