    The Red Sox also remained deep in Manny Ramírez trade talks with the Padres, with San Diego sweetening its original offer, according to a source with direct knowledge of the talks. The Padres are offering major league players for Ramírez, a package that presumably would have to include one of two pitchers: prime setup man Scott Linebrink or ace Jake Peavy. The Sox also have coveted Adrian Gonzalez, a lefthanded-hitting first baseman who put up outstanding numbers in his first full season in 2006: .304, 24 home runs, 38 doubles, and 82 RBIs.

    More likely the deal would be linebrink and Peavy for Ramirez

    let me tell you anteater,
    Manny is going nowhere, this has happened for SO many years. If manny is not on the Sox, who protects Ortiz or vice-versa? Willy mo or Hinske? Sox need the power in a division that constantly demand more and more. Also, Sox dont even need a Peavy (granted he's great); but look at their rotation: schilling, d-mat, beckett, paplebon, wakefield. It just doesnt make sense.

    As for the talks to you beloved padres; this is just lipservice to the boston fan, who hate the fact that manny constantly bully's them.

    JD Drew whom the Red Sox want to acquire would protect Ortiz
    I've never heard the talk this heavy with this many people. And yes the Red Sox do want a peavy because:
    Schilling: Injury Prone
    D-Mat: Not sure what you get
    Wakefield: Slowing down
    Papelbon: Closer, still not sure
    Clement: Often injured

    They had so many damned pitchers on DL last year that that was as major factor in their demise. Someone like Peavy would be huge for them and they can't stand Manny
    In additon Manny is tired of a media that does not leave him alone (think ARod in a way), so he'd like some place quiet

    They're gonna want Meredith back, they got screwed in that trade for Miribelli, I guarantee if they are in talks with us that Cla's name has come up.
