No, that turned out to be a misprint.

The Cowboys put in four claims for guys off waivers, including Roach, for two roster spots. They got all four claims granted. So, they had to decide which two of the four they were actually going to sign. Roach wasn't one of them.

Apologize for not knowing much about practice squad players, but aren't they under contract? Can other teams just pick them up like that?

Nope, they can be signed to an active contract by any team.

This kind of poaching is to be expected on a very good team - but that doesn't make me happy about it for the Bolts.

I am happy for Louis Leonard, and he did get the opportunity to work with the very best all summer - apparently it motivated him to keep his motor high and quit taking plays off (which was the buzz on him from the Bulldogs according to Shammy).

There really needs to be either a way to protect players OR an expansion of the current rosters .. This is just silly.

Not really, the same option is available to us.

The league is based on PARITY.

Practice squad is just that, practice.

The rules state that any player can be signed off any practice squad. The only requirement is that he be given a normal contract (i.e. one-year $285K) and be on the roster of 53 of the new team.

If he was good enough to make OUR roster of 53, he would be on the 53, not the PS.

Get ready to have this happen quite a bit over the next few years. Even our PS players are better than some of the other teams' roster players.

I guess my point is that I think that the roster needs to be expanded. Apparently my post was not clear.

But agreed, I am ready for this to happen yearly but at the same time, I think the NFL needs to figure out a "minor league" system. A way to protect players but they get their reps.

That was what NFL Europa was used for, before it went under. Each NFL Europa player had a team that "claimed" the first rights to him.

Yes .. and an alternative needs to be developed. Which was my ultimate point.
