Rex Ryan gushes about Antonio Cromartie

Posted by Mike Florio on August 4, 2010 10:52 PM ET

On Tuesday, Jets coach Rex Ryan talked to the media about cornerback Darrelle Revis, reiterating that he's the best cornerback in the game and saying nothing to make him feel isolated or alone during his holdout.

On Wednesday, Ryan barely mentioned Revis during a lengthy press conference. In fact, the only time his name came up came when Ryan was hyping up the guy who'll help fill the void, if Revis' holdout extends into the regular season.

"He has all the tools," Ryan said regarding Antonio Cromartie. "We want him to be physical. He's got these great long arms and strong hands, let's use them. Let's be more physical at the line. His ball skills are God given. I don't know how to describe him. I've never seen anything like that. Somebody is calling him a spider because he's so long, he's tall, and he's got those long arms. That's why he gets all those interceptions. Don't forget he can reach out six feet. He's a rare guy."

At this rate, two of the team's cornerbacks will eventually want $15.1 million per year.

Lmao, obviously he's always had great physical tools but he's too much of a ***** to actually put them to use in a real football game.

Actually if there is one guy that can probably get Cromartie to get physical it is Ryan. He is about the only guy that can unwind the brainwashing Deion Sanders put on the kid.

I am disappointed Rivera couldn't make a man out of him.

But I suspect Ryan will quickly tire of Cromartie not putting his nose into plays and he will end up being a ball hawking nickel.

He is also a lazy illiterate dumb football player who refuses to do a lot of contact and is injury prone.

Whoa there Rexy, Cro already has more children than Angelina and Brad.

Too bad tackling drills are his least favorite drill cuz they hurt his shoulder.

Let's see if that fat blowhard still thinks the same after the following occur (in no particular order):

    - Critical drive extending Illegal Contact/Holding penalty
    - Missed tackle resulting in big play (already covered by many here)
    - Lack of physicality allowing routes to be run largely unmolested or missing out on knocking a ball out
    - Page Six headlines revealing several additional baby mamas in the New York area

This should be fun to watch...

    A.M. Practice Notes

It was a great exchange of plays in the live-tackling period late in the morning session. CB Antonio Cromartie was a little late to the party on a Mark Sanchez pass over the middle to Dustin Keller. DC Mike Pettine from the sideline barked: “C’mon, Cro, compete!”

The next play Cromartie competed bigtime in an area some thought he wasn’t strong at: the running game. LaDainian Tomlinson got the call, tried to cut off right guard — and was met in the hole by No. 31.

“He picked him up and knocked him on his back,” head coach Rex Ryan crowed at today’s midday news conference. “Whooo, that was a nice tackle. They could’ve used that in that playoff game.” “They” likely referred to Cromartie’s previous team, San Diego, and “that playoff game” to the Chargers’ loss to the Jets.

The question is .. was it a good play or was it a late cut by LT?

That's what I was thinking. You have a player in Cromartie that can't tackle to save his ***, and you have an over the hill running back in LT that falls down with little or no contact. :icon_shrug:

Who are they trying to kid? My 10 year old daughter can tackle LT now. That's the only reason Cro plugged the hole cause he knew LT was the one running it. Guarantee he wouldn't do that to Shonn Greene.
Guess we can't expect the Jets to say LT and Cro suck. Otherwise, they'd look like idiots for picking them up.

Caption this: We have liftoff at Jets camp

    August, 5, 2010
    By Tim Graham

Give us your best caption for this Rex Ryan, uh, celebration with assistant Jeff Weeks.

Rex Ryan sure looks happy about something.

That's the New York Jets' head coach going airborne to hip-bump defensive assistant Jeff Weeks during Wednesday's training-camp practice at SUNY Cortland.

And since I don't know what they're so darned giddy about, I'm leaving it up to you to write the caption for me.

Cromartie is actually causing Rex to develop an egregious case of reflux. That combined with the lap band guarantees that he can't keep anything down. :icon_twisted:

Rex Ryan makes another bold proclamation

Posted by Mike Florio on August 5, 2010 6:21 PM ET

ESPN's Adam Schefter took a bus trip to Jets camp today. As the Schefter Cruiser leaves each camp, someone from the team signs the club's logo.

Today, Jets coach Rex Ryan did the honors. And he lingered like a guy trying to figure out how to fit as much Chinese food as possible on one buffet plate.

As it turns out, Ryan was signing more than his name. He also added the following message.

    "Soon to be champs."

Yeah, this should be a damn good season. The Jets have one of the biggest bull's-eyes that any team ever has worn, and Ryan happily has sewn the thing onto the back of every player's jersey.

    Keep writing those checks Rex.
