Richard Seymour: Raiders "as talented as any team in football"

Posted by Michael David Smith on August 28, 2010 2:26 PM ET

A year ago, Richard Seymour was so unhappy about being traded to the Raiders that he considered not showing up at all.

Now Seymour sounds giddy when he talks about playing in Oakland.

"My wife, she'd tell you," Seymour said of his love for the Raiders, per Terence Moore of FanHouse. "She always tells me that I seem like a kid in a candy store whenever I put on that Raiders' silver and black. I don't mind wearing our white jerseys, but if we could wear black, and if that was our only color to wear every game . . . I mean, there is something about putting on that black. It's unlike putting on any other jersey in the NFL."

Seymour has three Super Bowl rings from his time in New England, and he says there's enough talent in Oakland that he could get a fourth with the Raiders.

"Talent-wise, we're as talented as any team in football, but it takes more than talent," Seymour said. "It takes attention to details. It takes doing the little things, because the margin of victory is small in the league, and there has to be consistency."

Actually, the Raiders have had plenty of consistency -- they've lost between 11 and 14 games each of the last seven seasons. It's hard to square that consistency with Seymour's claims about the team's talent.

Jason Campbell carted off, not seriously injured

Posted by Mike Florio on August 28, 2010 10:20 PM ET

Raiders fans got a huge scare during their Saturday night preseason game against the 49ers when quarterback Jason Campbell left the field on a cart.

The team says that Campbell suffered only a stinger, per Nancy Gay of FOXSports.com.

Campbell took a blindside hit from 49ers linebacker Travis LaBoy, who apparently beat tackle Mario Henderson like a drum-playing rented mule.

Before leaving the game, Campbell completed six of eight passes for 93 yards. The 49ers currently lead late in the first half, 10-7.

What do you all want him to say, they stink???

Normal thing to say for a player about his team.

Raiders can easily win 8 games this year

No, he's right they ARE as talented as any team, but they are also more dysfunctional and poorly coached as any team as well.

Not if you do the math.

QB- Upgrade over FatMarcus sure, but Campbell is still an average football player taking on his 8th new offensive scheme.
O-line- Ranked 32nd overall by Yahoo, and its hard to argue becaue there isn't a single name you can recognize.
WR- AWFUL all around. Shillens, Heyward-Bey, Murphey, Higgins...
TE- Good one in Zach Miller, but he's not a gamebreaker.
RBs- Solid but injury prone. McFadden hasn't practiced once this offseason, Bush broke his thumb last night.
Defense- Very good, could be around the top 10 this year if Rolando McLain avoids rookie woes. But they arn't the Jets. Their biggest problem is they have NO DEPTH past their starters, any amount of injuries could snake bite this entire crew. They'll need to be a top 3-5 defense to have a chance at .500.
Coaching: Worst coaching staff in the NFL. Tom Cable belongs in a trailer park, Hue Jackson is 9-23 as an OC, John Marshall plays a dated form of early 90's defense where its ALL MAN-MAN all the time.

So lets add up...Poor playcaller + Average QB + Awful O-line + piss poor reciving weapons = Among the worst in ppg, probably around 26th-30th. They'll need their defense to be NY Jets level to keep every single game close, because if they get down by 10pts at any time the game might as well be over.

I could see them being better, any time you have a good defense there's a shot, plus they upgraded at QB. Especially with the schedule they have it's possible they could win 8 games. Of course the Raiders also find ways to lose games.

I hope our team doesn't overlook them because they've come close to beating us the last couple years yet somehow found a way to lose.

The Raiders upgraded their QB...but their QB downgraded to the Raiders. Washington has better WRs, better O-line, and better coaching.

Jason Campbell is yet to have a winning season in the NFL, and its not like he hasn't had support. The Skins were 4th in defense in 08', and 10th in 09', finished in the basement both times because their offense was flat out awful under his command.

Agree with this. OAK with or wout Campbell has improved overall as a team the past 2 seasons. Add Campbell and subtract Jmar, and they deffinatly have a legitimate shot at breaking their 11 game losing season streak record. 8 games inst so far fetched to see happen. Den injured already. KC I think also will be gettin more Ws than expected this year. Not that any of them come against us.
