Last night John Lloyd Egan Jr. my father passed away after fighting cancer for 3 years. I wish I could tell you what type of man he was, but until this past year we were not very close.

His friends loved him, and rallied around him, his neighbors looked upon him as a father figure. He served the nation in the Army, including time in Vietnam.

He was a caring grandfather to his two grandsons, and provided them with everything he could. The last week he was with his family, and positive up to the end.

Dad, for all the ways I failed you, I am sorry. I hope you are in a much better place.

P.S. Sorry folks, I know this is a Chargers fan site, I just didnt know where to write anything down.

    Oh Curtis,

I am shakinga little as I write this. We are planning to take my Dad out today for Veteran's Day. I cannot fathom not having him any more.

That being said, I am deeply sorry for your loss. I have your family and friends in my thoughts and prayers.

I am going to give my Dad an extra special hug in thinking of your Dad.

    Take care, friend.

    Hey Curtis.
I am sorry to hear of your loss. I know what it is exactly what you are going through; I lost my dad to Cancer in 1982. There isn’t a day that goes by when I don’t think about him. I know when I lost mine I was a little relieved. I was tired of seeing him suffer, he fought it, but it was not good enough. Towards the end and his body was taken over by the cancer, I did not want him to suffer anymore. We knew he was not going to win, and myself and my brothers prepared ourselves for that final day. We had that visual snapshot of him in his better days.

It is very hard to lose a parent, and it sounds as if he has a very strong family to leave behind. It sounds like he has led a full life, and has reaped its benefits, good friends and a close family. What else could one ask for? I am positive he will be missed. But it sounds like he gave a valiant fight for his life, and he has left to go a better life; one without pain and sorrow. He will prepare it for those who loved him to follow.

I will keep you and yours in my thoughts and prayers

    I'm so sorry, bro.

You were a good son to him in the end. That's what matters. Anything else needs to be grieved & let go.

My condolences to you, your dear wife, & the grandsons.

    Mrs. Buck sends her love.

I know you were expecting this to happen sooner rather than later, but I'm sure it makes the loss no easier to bear.

My thoughts are with you all as you say goodbye. We're here if you need us buddy.

Very sorry to hear of your loss Conc. Although both of my parents are still alive, I did have some very serious issues with my late father-in-law. He avoided resolving any of them until up to close to the end... and unfortunately it was then too late. I was the only family member not to shed a single tear at his funeral.

Six years have passed and now I can better focus on the good times we had and more on what we shared in common. I can actually say that I really miss him. Virtually unimaginable at the time.

Bear the loss. Focus on the good. And try not to be as stubborn as I was.

    Curtis,

    God speed.

It's difficult to find the right words to express our sorrow.

    Your friend,

So sorry Conc. You are a great guy, I'm sure your dad had something to do with that.

I just lost my mother-in-law a few months ago after a long illness. Both she and your dad are at peace now, take solace in that.

Sorry to hear of your loss Curtis, my mother passed this last May, I was given memorial plaque called "The broken chain". It's never far away.

    The Broken Chain

We little knew that morning that
God was going to call your name.
In life we loved you dearly.
In death we do the same.

It broke our hearts to lose you.
    You did not go alone,
for part of us went with you
the day God called you home.

    You left us peaceful memories.
Your love is still our guide.
And though we cannot see you,
you are always at our side.

    Our family chain is broken
    and nothing seems the same,
but as God calls us one by one,
    the Chain will link again.

    Peace.
