The window is now closed until the Chargers' season ends or they have a week off before the Super Bowl.

    That's fine with Ron Rivera.

"I'm committed to helping the Chargers win the Super Bowl," the team's defensive coordinator said yesterday.

Rivera declined to comment further on his prospects with the Buffalo Bills and Seattle Seahawks, but sources have confirmed both teams asked permission to speak with Rivera but that it was Rivera who declined the opportunity to interview with either.

The Seahawks are reportedly close to hiring USC coach Pete Carroll, and the interview they did with Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier and might have done with Rivera was widely believed to have been procedural to satisfy league rules that require the interviewing of minority candidates.

Frazier is also considered a candidate to take over in Buffalo after interviewing with the Bills last week.

There has been a report that Frazier is the leading candidate in Buffalo, but the Bills seem to be in no hurry to make a decision.

Rivera has interviewed for numerous head coaching positions since 2006, including for the Detroit Lions job last year and for the Chargers and Cowboys vacancies prior to the 2007 season.
