From the first time he addressed the Chargers as defensive coordinator last week, Ron Rivera made personal accountability his mandate.
In practice, he is vocal and a stickler for detail. If a play is done wrong, it is done over again.

“It's everyone being accountable for their own mistakes, and Coach Rivera is making that assumption now that he's not going to let the little things pass him by,” free safety Eric Weddle said. “ ... The little things have gotten us in trouble the first eight weeks.”
From across the field, someone noticed a change.

“I thought there was a spring in their step,” Tomlinson said of the defense. “They're definitely doing some different philosophies and concepts. I think the guys are excited about having Ron.”

Defenders said they are pleased to have Rivera running things, which is not to say they have thrown the fired Ted Cottrell entirely under the bus. They have, in fact, acknowledged for a week their complicity in Cottrell's departure.

“I think we are having a different attitude,” Phillips said. “I think that's because Coach Rivera is instilling that in us. And we feel like it was our fault why (Cottrell) got fired. We're getting another opportunity, and we're going to try another way and see where this way gets us.”

Change is good (nothing to do with politics, although i'll be sure to place my ballot in the obama box  ). I have a feeling we'll see an all around changed chargers teams. This a new season, throw away all the losses and wins (well maybe not the NE one  ).

Lets go 8-0...and see what happens from there

I give credit to the players for at least holding their tongues on Ted. Shows they at least "get it" in that regard and that means there's hope that they get what Rivera is teaching.

I'm sick of hearing soundbites from the defensive players. Shut up and make a play.

...Obviously they didn't go to Branden Marshall's school of "It's everyone else's fault but mine as to why we're losing".

I think that this part speaks volumes about how the accountability wasn't completely gone. They aren't making TC a complete scapegoat, they're taking their share of the blame, which is important for realizing that only they can truly change how the defense has been playing.

Give em steroids - what can the NFL do if the whole team is juiced? suspend them...I'd like to see some suits walk up to our steroid-enhanced monsters and try to telll them they can't play football.
Seriously, we have the second best scoring team in the league but a 3-5 record. All blame goes to the defense. ALL blame...

I'll settle for a W - any way we can get it. (Of course a blowout of KC would make me feel better about that next game - unlike the team I get to look ahead.)
