Philip Rivers and Drew Brees are connected again.

The two quarterbacks are among the five finalists for the league Good Guy award, presented by the Pro Football Writers of America. The other finalists are Colts linebacker Gary Brackett, Tennessee free agent Keith Bullock and Seattle quarterback Matt Hasselbeck. The players were nominated based on their accessibility and willingness to give insight in their interaction with reporters.

Brees and Rivers -- two were together in San Diego in 2004-05 before Brees left through free agency -- are both are famous for their candor and accessibility.

I have dealt with Rivers much more than Brees. Rivers is consistently one of the best interviews in the AFC West. He always has time to talk, no matter what time of year or no matter how many interviews he’d conducted that day. More than once I departed the locker room with Rivers and he provided magic for my notebook each time.

My most memorable interaction with Brees was at the Pro Bowl in Hawaii in 2005. He was on the way to “jumping into the ocean” but he stopped and gave me about 10 minutes of his time. These are two great players and two terrific people. They are both excellent candidates for this award

Brees is still riding high on his Super Bowl winning MVP performance. I will be surprised if he doesn't win it.

They gotta have a "Bad Guy" award. There will be a LOT more qualified Candidates for that one!
