    Not exactly a good sign......

    Philip Rivers absent from practice
    By Michael Gehlken

Philip Rivers has a lightened workload this week.

The Chargers quarterback spectated Tuesday during individual drills, watching Kellen Clemens and Brad Sorensen make all the throws. Rivers stood nearby, hands stuffed in gray-sweatpant pockets.

On Wednesday, he did even less.

Rivers wasn't on the field for the early portion of practice that is open to reporters. He's made 128 consecutive starts since becoming the Chargers' starting quarterback in 2006, the NFL's second-longest active streak. At this stage, every indication is Rivers will start Saturday night against the 49ers.

Coach Mike McCoy will address his status Wednesday after practice.

The team is required then to submit an injury report. Rivers, listed last week with a chest and back ailment, downplayed his inactivity Tuesday.

"I feel good," said Rivers, who wasn't sacked during Sunday's loss to the Broncos. 'I'll be ready to roll on Saturday evening."

Wide receiver Keenan Allen (collarbone), running back Ryan Mathews (ankle), tight end Ladarius Green (ankle) and defensive end Corey Liuget (ankle) were among the other Chargers not to practice.

Please don't let this end like '05 season. If we lose, rest Rivers vs KC. Our entire franchise will be set back years if we endanger him like this. Hopefully McCoy wont be as foolish as The Gleam.

Where did I say he wasn't going to play? I said it isn't a good sign..... which it isn't.

We knew he was injured, but it wasn't bad enough for him to miss practice, but now it is. His play the last two weeks has been poor, so don't expect a sudden resurgence of the old Rivers.

Well, he has had a rough couple of weeks, maybe just needs to relax a bit, then it is back to work on Sunday. (Er, Saturday...)

Maybe when he found out that the 49ers' D even managed to sack Russell Wilson 3-4 times last Sunday, he decided to hold onto all his energy in lieu of his lethargic and sluggish lanky legs ;)

Looks like this game is going to be a dogfight. PR is chomping at the bit; just hope he doesn't get injured.
