    Rivers numbers breakdown

Philip Rivers will make $38.15 million fully guaranteed and a possible $98.25 million over the next seven years, according to the contract that posted today and was viewed by the Union-Tribune.

The contract, a six-year extension worth $92.25 million, compares favorably to that of Eli Manning in the up-front money.

The deal included a hefty $19.55 million signing bonus, which will be prorated over the life of the contract, and a $6 million option bonus. Those option bonuses wil be paid out over in $1.2 million increments over the first five years of the six-year extension, which begins next year.

    Rivers' base salaries: $6 million in 2009; $6.6 million in '10; $8.4 million in '11; $10.2 million in '12; $12 million in '13; $13.8 in '14; and $15.75 million in '15.

The last year of the extension is actually an option year that must be exercised by the team in 2010 or Rivers' base salaries through 2014 are increased. Considering his age, it is virtually guaranteed Rivers will play out the entire contract.

Rivers will make $50.75 million over the first three years of the extension (2010-12), compared to the $52.75 Manning will make in those seasons. Both players signed six-year extensions to add to their existing contracts that ran through '09.
