I'd say that Rivers is on his way, but I'd wait a year or two before handing him the crown........ hopefully, after he hoists the Lombardi.

Doug Flutie was the best quarterback to ever wear a Chargers jersey.

River's better than Fouts, I don't know about that. River's is definitely one of the best in today's game but it's also played in a different manner than when Fouts strapped em on.

Exactly. Sorry, but a guy needs to be a quality starter in the league for more than 5 years before being crowned as being better than a hall of famer. Couple more years and he can have that crown, but not yet

Stats-wise I'll buy it. He's certainly the better of the two after the first five years.

Stats are deceiving. We saw that with our #1 defense last year which was not the best.

If stats are all that mattered, Matt Schaub would be one of the best QB's in the NFL

So Rivers isn't one of the best? Last years stats lie about what he did?

He is definitly one of the best. Just pointing to that they are not the whole story, and to say that after 5 years Rivers is better than a Hall of Famer becuase of their stats, is just dumb.

I said stats are not all that matters

I said through their first five years, Rivers is the better of the two. Not Rivers after 5 years is better than Fouts' 15.

That is fine. But since the comparison is not on equal levels, it is lame to look strictly at stats.
Fouts took over a team that hadn't had a winning season in 3 years, did not have a great surrounding cast, and didn't have pass only coaches his 1st 5 years, while Rivers took over a playoff team with a Pro-Bowl TE, WR, and RB, and had a throw only coach calling the plays

I am in no way saying Rivers isn't good since he is one of the top 5 QB's in the game today, Just that the comparison isn't on an equal playing field, so to only look at stats is ridiculous

What is this "throw only coach" nonsense? Enough with the "it's not LT's fault" bit already. Seriously, do you really believe this stuff? Rivers 1st year as a starter was under Marty, not Norv. In 2006, Marty had the training wheels on Rivers, so LT had his most carries, and his biggest production. In Norv's first two seasons as head coach, LT had 315 carries, and 292 carries (2007 &2008). Both years he had well over 1,000 yards rushing. Does that sound like a pass happy offense to you?

And if you believe that Norv wants a balanced offense, then you are delusional. He doesn't want one, just like Marty didn't. Norv is a passing guy, Marty was a running guy.

Pass only may be an exaggeration. But he is a pass 1st, pass often coach, whether you want to admit it or not

Which is why Norv asked AJ to draft him the best RB available. :roflmao:

Loved Foust, love Rivers, don't really feel the need to choose who's the best one, I do however want Rivers to beat out Foust in (San Diego Chargers) superbowl wins

BTW, I do think Rivers will surpass Foust in career yards and touchdowns while having way less interceptions

Norv will use whatever works...... you go with whatever the strengths of your team is. He would be foolish to do otherwise.

If you don't have a dominant RB, but you have an elite QB, then you will end up throwing more. It has nothing to do with preference. Norv would love to have a balanced offense, where he could attack a defense either way, at any time. His prior history proves his love of the running game.

Okay, I tried to stay out of it.
Now don't flip out because I'm going to throw a few stats at ya.
    Taking Francis's best years 1979-1983 (5years) and
comparing with Philip G's* best years 2006-2010 (5years)
    and we get:
    Francis: 124 td, 91 int...difference of +33
    Philip G.: 135 td, 57 int...difference of +78

Yes, I am aware that there is more to quarterbacking besides
touchdowns vs. interceptions, but well, I kinda got bored looking
at the numbers, so deal with it.

The years used are to compare the 2 qb's in their "prime"
though Philip G. is just now opening that door while Francis
took a little longer to get there (waiting for Air Coryell).

So there you are folks...a few stats to piss off the stat haters
(not intentionally) and by the way while looking into Francis's
stats I noticed that my man Wes Chandler had a mind boggling
year in 1982. The dude had 129yds receiving avg. per game for
the season. I know it's a little misleading since there were
only 9 games played that year....but damn.

*Bonus: Does anyone know Philip's real middle name?
Wiki has it as just the letter "G", while everywhere else that I
checked said he didn't have one. Philip Gangsta Rivers....hmmm,
    I don't see it.
