No disrespect to the bearded wonder who I think woulda won a superbowl or two had he had more around him esp on def, but I think Rivers is gonna go down as one of the all-time greats as well, but with a superbowl ring on his finger hopefully more than one. He just seems to have that fire and passion- that extra quality u cant teach and will do anything to help his team win. And I believe it is contagious and rubs off on his teammates. I think if he can lead us to a superbowl trophy this year- we will have a good chance to win a couple more in the next few years after. :bolt:

I don't have any doubts that he will go down as the best Chargers QB ever.

Easily the best Chargers QB I've ever seen play.

Of course, it's easy to make that opinion when you're too young to have seen Fouts play.

Tough to compare the two I believe if fouts were on these current charger teams he would fare just as well. When he played he played down a lot and was forced into passing situations a lot which always makes it tougher. He also didnt have the def or running game that we have had since rivers has been starter. That being said I would take either one of them over most qbs that ever played the game.

Rivers hasn't really had much of a running game the past few years either.

He had one of the best running games ever his first year starting, but it pretty much went downhill from there.

Fouts had the best offensive line in the game during the late 70's early 80's and had some pretty good running backs (Muncie, Brooks). Rivers would do just as well with the weapons Fouts had.

Come on, admit it. It moves when he goes deep.

Having seen both, play, it is a toss up at this point. Let's see how Syd's lover boy rates at the end of his career, but I think Rivers is going to own most of the chargers passing records when he is done.

River's is a close second to Fouts right now but Fouts played in a different era. Today's game is way more QB friendly than when Fout's would get busted up, they'd slap some tape on him and he'd be right back out there.

I won't deny that QBs are protected more than they were in Fouts' day, but at the same time you can't question Rivers' drive to get back out there when he played the AFCC game on one knee.

"You" as in "me" or who? questioning River's drive sounds like it to me. Hell I don't know.

"You" was meant as a general term.

I was responding to your post but not talking directly to you.

    Sorry for the confusion.

So glad we didn't get ecry!!! I think the level rivers plays at, when he gets lots more time under his belt he will be compared to payton manning, young, montana, farve, marino and company as some of the best Qb's ever. I know its soon, i'm saying if he keeps up htis amazing level of play though. Other than manning no other QB is throwing as well. Brees is still amazing and has great decisionn making ability but I think rivers is better overall and I'm glad we made the choice to keep him over brees~!

Fouts was one of my favorite Charger QB's since I started following Charger ball in the Air Coryell days. I was too young to for Hadl, Alworth the greats from back in the 60's even though I know they were great. But being a huge Rivers fan from the beginning, I agree he may go down as the best Charger QB ever since he's gonna get us the rings and the Hardware before he's done. Fouts would have done it too if it wasn't for the damn Cincy "Ice Bowl", Vernon Perry, the cb on Houston who picked off Fouts 4 times in a playoff game against Houston and a better secondary.
