Suck on this you AJ/Norv hatin' a.ssbags: (Brilliant move by AJ and Norv)

Chargers hire assistant head coach to complete their staff
    By Kevin Acee

    Monday January 26, 2009

Rob Chudzinski is coming back -- and he has some added responsibility.

The Chargers' tight ends coach in 2005 and 2006, Chudzinski is coming back to coach that position after two seasons as Cleveland's offensive coordinator and he will be the assistant head coach as well this time. Chudzinski spent 10 seasons (1994-2003) as an assistant at his alma mater, the University of Miami, and one season with the Browns before coming to San Diego the first time.

Cleveland's assistant line coach Mike Sullivan has also been hired to fill that role with the Chargers. Sullivan played 10 seasons (1986-95) in the NFL for three different teams (Dolphins, Cowboys, Bucs) and has spent six of the past eight seasons as a Browns assistant. He also has college coaching experience at Miami (2000) and Western Michigan (2005-06).

The official announcement of the moves will be made later Monday or Tuesday.

"he will be the assistant head coach as well this time" Hmmmm... Wonder what Rivera thinks of that?

He'll love it. It means he'll have someone to talk to besides Norv... since Ron doesn't speak "Alien"

I think that's AJ and Dean's way of saying: "Don't just assume you'll be our HC next year"

Doesn't really mean much, really just a way to prevent teams from poaching him from us again and offering him an OC deal. Only way to go up is to become HC. Same could be said about Rivera as well though.

I could be wrong though, but it looks like they want to keep him this time.

Why does there always have to be an alterior motive? For once, it would be nice if the point of every move was to WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP. Not about wielding power or putting someone in their place.

A solid Asst. HC will only help put us in a better position to win - imo it would take some things off Norv's plate [maybe clock/time-out/challenge mgmt] so he can focus more on what he does best. Chud's also a guy who had success here, knows the personnel, it's a win-win! No drama need apply tx~

But, but, but, Marty was the best thing to ever happen to the city of San Diego. How dare you insult his genius.

Man the thing that pissed me off and probably AJ too is he let all our position coaches go when he knew there was a good chance our OC and DC would have gotten HCing offers.

Especially when it comes to Chud since Cam became HC around the same time Chud became OC for the Browns, how hard is it to keep Chud so he could be promoted to OC with SD instead of elsewhere? It'd be one thing if Marty had plans of bringing in some big named OC to replace Cam, but he didn't. He waited until the coaching staff was completely stripped.

You could same thing when it comes to Wade leaving and letting Manusky go, although Wade was hired like a week after and Norv was also in the running.

Marty would have been the HC of the Chargers for 07 if he promoted Chud to OC and kept Manusky for DC, or tried to hire someone other than his brother. **** he still might have been HC now.

Why replace him? He's a great RB coach. No reason to dump him.

Why would Shelmon take a demotion? And why would Norv want to give up offensive play calling? What we have now is fine.

I'm kind of wondering what the OC thinks about it. Is Clarance still the OC?

One look at Shelmon's contract would answer that one. Is his up after 2009?

But, with all the coaching changes out there, Chud didn't land any OC offers or he wouldn't be here. Guess his tenure in Clev didn't help his image.

I like the move to get Chud back, but it kind of muddies of the chain of command and puts a lot of fingers into the offensive pie. Shelmon's got two bosses now? Rivera just gets to do what he does, run the defense. If I was Shelmon, I'd be looking over my shoulder.

I reckon Shelmon's days are numbered. I can see Chud calling the plays before end season 09, freeing Norv to concentrate on managing the game, which he has great difficulty doing.

Chud was spoken of v v highly by Gates, so this is a great re-hire, but isn't it sad that we lost both he and Manusky at the same time, when they seem to be both great coaches!?.

Some would say why does he get to be an OC when all he does is coach the running backs.

Oh, and he gets to call that running play where LT runs into the back of his o-line and fall down
