I guess those calls to bring in Runyan to kick his tires did not fall on deaf ears.

    Let's see what he's got.

Don't know if he has anything left, but I love the fact that we are exploring the option.

Source: Chargers trying to sign Runyan

With offensive tackle Jeromey Clary nursing a leg injury that will sideline him indefinitely, the San Diego Chargers are stepping up efforts to sign free-agent offensive tackle Jon Runyan, a source close to the situation said Tuesday.

Runyan was en route to San Diego on Tuesday to see if he could finalize a contract with the Chargers.

The former Philadelphia Eagles starter is coming off a major knee injury but is ready to play football again.

Adam Schefter is an ESPN NFL Insider.

I guess clarey is done for the season. Argh. HOpe runyan has something left. And is in somewhat good shape. This is a bit of a desperate move I believe.

Come playoff time he could be a difference maker and getting him now would give him time to get up to speed going into the playoffs.

I just hope he doesn't get signed in time to pay Sunday, or if he is that we can take advantage of his rust.

Could be a big thing to get a vet like that, though i admit i'm very curious about what dombrowski and clark could do, clearly Runyan would be an improvement

    We were heard.

This can't hurt in any way.

The guy defines nasty in his play. Mean streak a mile wide. The attitude will be great for our OL.

It's only to bridge a gap. He may not even start, but the vet presence will help this locker room & OL.

He knows we have a legit shot at a ring. He's gonna push like hell at a last chance.

It keeps a competitive fire lit under our guys.

    Thanks for listening, AJ.

Isn't his veteran minimum around $1M? I don't know, it just feels like another Newberry signing, but what the hell do I know.:icon_shrug:

Circumstances are different, but I'm hoping that it's more of a Roman Oben signing in the short term.

I am MORE than willing to give Runyan a salary if he can contribute to putting us over the top.

I have a feeling that this is gonna be big.

His experience alone is worth that much - IMHO. If he provides leadership and can help mentor the youngsters along with providing relief - let's do it!

    Welcome Jon Runyan.

Only a bad medical report on him will prevent this signing.

Dude was last listed at 6' 7" 330 lbs. That's Marcus McNeil size! :icon_eek:
