Leaf filled in for Darren Smith this week on his radio show...... didn't do a bad job, really.

He was very candid about his past with the Chargers and seemed to have a very mature, profound nature.

Leaf definitely came off as less of a pompous *** than Darren Smith does. ;)

The dude had mental issues before the Bolt's drafted him and knew full well what they were getting. The Bolt's got what they deserved, Ryan was just the pawn in a big game under the spotlight.

A pawn? He was a pawn? No he had self inflicted problems. His attitude was his biggest down fall. Coddle him if you want, I expect him to own his sheet, as he appears to be doing.

Ryan Leaf as come to terms with what he did in San Diego and he has been quite candid about the mistakes he made and he is appologetic about it. Say what you want about the man but I say that shows character.

I'm willing to forgive and forget.

Whadda say San Diego? How about we set this poisoned chalice down and get on with our lives?! I for one don't want the name Ryan leaf to define, negatively this great football franchise.

I am not sure where you got that tripe. HE did the things to himself, he was no pawn, as you hae labeled him. You may want to excuse his actions as driven by others but I never will.

A pawn? Are you suggesting that Leaf was somehow exploited?

I don't care what Leaf did, the Chargers were stupid enough to draft and pay him. That's no sweat off my balls, and yes all these players are nothing more than game pieces, wake up dude.

Game peices are controlled by external forces. Not even in harry Potter's world do the wizard chess peices move without some wand weilding prepubesant child telling them where to go.

These young men of the NFL ARE NOT CONTROLLED, NOT SLAVES, NOT MADE TO GO OFF ON THE MEDIA AGAINST THEIR WILL! They are under contract, but their actions and choices are theirs alone. No one ran down and told Ryan to go off on the reporter in the locker room, no one told Ryan to be a royal dick... Only Ryan made those choices. You make excuses if that serves you. I dont need them and wont accept them.

I figured an old hard liner like you would have recognized that. Guess we learn something new every day.

I'll still never forget when Leaf was chatting on his cell phone after a game, with reporters waiting to interview him. Some of the vets in the locker room noticed how rude he was (again). One of them said "just call his number and have the call waiting interrupt him". Then someone else asked "what's his number", to which Rodney Harrison said "1-800-JERK".

Leaf was going to be the savior of this franchise. Everyone expected this and expectations were far too high for a first round QB. That is why there is still much buttache over him not panning out. Other players have done far worse (illegal) things and there have been many "busts". I find what he says and his views fascinating. He could have gone and hid in a cave for the rest of his life.

Obviously, some people around here would've preferred it that way. ;)
