Before many of you readers start bashing me on this, let me take some time to explain myself. Shawne Merriman was a victim of a really serious injury. That's unquestionable. What was in question is the scheme that Merriman would have came into if he was healthy.
Merriman isn't a guy that fits Ron Rivera's defense. Rivera's defense is a zone base scheme. Merriman ain't the zone type of guy. Many of the Chargers' sacks this season that help them ranked second in the league in sacks were "coverage" sacks. This means that the QB usually can't throw the ball due to the secondary and linebackers often blanketing the field with disguised zone coverage, giving the rushers a longer time to get to the QB.
By no means is Merriman that type of player. Shaun Phillips is a very well-rounded OLB. He's not great like Merriman in pressuring opposing QBs but he's good enough to be able to pressure and play zone coverage also.
Let's be honest here, Merriman's health and lack of stats the past couple of years aren't the reason why he is no longer a Charger. The only reason why Merriman is gone is because of the Chargers' problems on special teams. That's right, special teams is why he isn't wearing the San Diego uniform next season.
Merriman wasn't getting on the field due to his health and seeing how many of the Chargers' special teams players were getting hurt left and right, Merriman was taking up a roster spot that could be used on a special teams player. Antwan Barnes came in to be that guy and also contribute on the defensive side of the ball.

Now that Ron Rivera is gone, the Chargers now have Greg Manusky as the defensive coordinator. This is where I feel Merriman would have found his legs again. Why? Because Manusky is running the same exact scheme that Merriman made a name for himself in.
Manusky's scheme isn't zone based, it's based around aggressive play-calling and sending the house against a QB forcing him to make a mistake. Merriman was a beast in this type of defense. It was said that he revolutionize the LB position much similar to how Lawrence Taylor did back in the day.

Merriman had the size of a defensive linemen and the tenacity of a heat-seeking OLB which made it hard for any coordinator to scheme against him. He demanded the attention of the opposing offenses and it often took more than three blockers to block him which was tough as it freed up one on one blocks against the other Charger players who were good in their own right.
If you look at Merriman's stats back in his first two years in the league, you can easily see what type of player he was for former DC Wade Phillipsz aggressive defense. Subsequently, the same defense that Manusky is bringing back to San Diego next season.
In Merriman's 2005 rookie season, Merriman had 57 combined tackles, 10 sacks, four pass defended and forced two fumbles. He started only 10 out of 15 games, putting up ridiculous stats that essentially put him in the Pro Bowl as a rookie.

In 2006, Merriman had 62 combined tackles, 17 sacks, seven pass defended, one interception and four forced fumbles. He went to the Pro Bowl again.
His first two seasons, playing in Phillips' defense, got the Chargers a player to put on the defensive side of the ball that instilled fear in opposing offenses.
Merriman is no longer with the Chargers. The Chargers may look for the next Merriman in the draft to fit this defense the way he did for Phillips in the 2005-2006 seasons.
There will be the likes of Ryan Kerrigan, Akeem Ayers and Jeremey Beal amongst others in this upcoming draft. I believe that the next big time player is within those ranks but one can't help wondering what a young, healthy, recovered Shawne "Lights Out" Merriman would have done for the Chargers again in the scheme that made him one of the most feared OLBs in the entire league.
Only if fate had him stay, I honestly believe under DC Manusky, Merriman would have been back to putting opposing QB's lights out.

lol, ANOTHER 1 COOL GUY. In gaming u better be great to smurf my name. Hope u represent well friend. At cpl when we won AA summer, the whole team was 1 cool guy's (if u want the replay I could send it to you-we were so dominate our strats they stopped the whole tournament to protest that we had an unbeatable strat(We practiced top secret for months before event i designed it), and hence demanded the rules changed so teams could have a chance of beating us. So they couldn't go after the real one in matches, was great tactic and helped us dominate tourney, was funny as well true story. I have the all time record for players smurfing my name in various video games hard to believe but yea. This is why I try hard to not be sponsored and stay low profile. (I went i think 16-2 in the finals record still to this day of dominance in a lan event) It was so funny when in WIC pub server whole clan came in with my same name and everyone was laughing and confused. In gaming they say u are not great until ppl copy your name.

Be great, no fear and live the dream. How can teams beat us when we all used my name and I was top player plus my tactics lol it was great!

Like the Erlking in Goethe's famous poem, the maleficence of 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp's philosophies can sometimes be imperceptible. The purpose of this post is therefore to expose the morally repugnant nature of 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp's utterances and let you draw your own conclusions about 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp's motives. Wait! Before you dismiss me as brusque, hear me out. 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp asserts that character development is not a matter of "strength through adversity" but rather, "entitlement through victimization". Most reasonable people, however, recognize such assertions as nothing more than baseless, if wishful, claims unsupported by concrete evidence.

Who is behind the decline of our civilization? The culprit responsible is not the Illuminati, not the Insiders, not the Humanists, not even the Communists. No, the decline of our civilization is attributable primarily to 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp. Consequently, he says that I and others who think he's a flighty smart aleck are secretly using etheric attachment cords to drain people's karmic energy. What he means by this, of course, is that he wants free reign to promote a culture of dependency and failure.

For what it's worth, 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp's zingers symbolize lawlessness, violence, and misguided rebellion—extreme liberty for a few, even if the rest of us lose more than a little freedom. 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp's vassals profess that women are spare parts in the social repertoire—mere optional extras. This is precisely the non-equation that 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp is trying to patch together. What he's missing, as usual, is that his ideologies are like a Hydra. They continually acquire new heads and new strength. The only way to stunt their growth is to communicate and teach. The only way to destroy 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp's Hydra entirely is to provide more people with the knowledge that he and his understrappers are, by nature, power-hungry miscreants. Not only can that nature not be changed by window-dressing or persiflage, but politically incorrect, cynical bourgeoisie like 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp are not born—they are excreted. However unsavory that metaphor may be, frotteurism is not merely an attack on our moral fiber. It is also a politically motivated attack on knowledge.

Note that the foregoing does not pretend to be an accurate description of all people who might be considered asinine beguilers. It is only a rough indication of some of 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp's general tendencies. If you've ever watched television or read a book, odds are that you already know that the time has come to choose between freedom or slavery, revolt or submission, and liberty or 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp's particularly cankered form of racialism. It's clear what 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp wants us to choose, but I don't know what makes him think that advertising is the most veridical form of human communication. Maybe he's been sipping cuckoo juice. The fact of the matter is that no matter how bad you think 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp's criticisms are, I assure you that they are far, far worse than you think. While it's true that 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp's torchbearers constitute the only known species of animal life that is both mammalian and invertebrate, the more important point is that I suggest that we make efforts directed towards broad, long-term social change. This right and truthful proposition, practically established, will help us delegitimize 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp.

If we let 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp dispense outright misinformation and flashlight-under-the-chin ghost stories, all we'll have to look forward to in the future is a public realm devoid of culture and a narrow and routinized professional life untouched by the highest creations of civilization. We must, in one voice, cry out that we will not tolerate his snippy hatchet jobs. Need I say more? I don't think so, but this I will say: Back when our policemen were guardians, not enforcers, they would have protected us from 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp's camp. Today, it seems that most officers of the law are content to sit back and let 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp destroy the values, methods, and goals of traditional humanistic study. That's why we must spread the word about his ungrateful treatises to our friends, our neighbors, our relatives, our co-workers—even to strangers. Actually, he attracts heartless delinquents to his peuplade by telling them that people find his unrelenting, over-the-top hostility rather refreshing. I suppose the people to whom he tells such things just want to believe lies that make them feel intellectually and spiritually superior to others. Whether or not that's the case, 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp's brain must work very different from mine. Please re-read and memorize that sentence if you still believe that 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp's reinterpretations of historic events are intelligent, commonsensical, and entirely consonant with the views of ordinary people.

I recently overheard a couple of jealous, unmannerly prevaricators say that violence and prejudice are funny. Here, again, we encounter the blurred thinking that is characteristic of this 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp-induced era of slogans and propaganda. How can he live with himself, knowing that his cabal is a wretched hive of scum and villainy? I'll tell you the answer in a moment. But first, let me just say that he contends that he has a duty to conceal the facts and lie to the rest of us, under oath if necessary, perjuring himself to help disseminate the True Faith of recidivism and that, therefore, newspapers should report only on items he agrees with. This bizarre pattern of thinking leads to strange conclusions. For example, it convinces morally questionable freeloaders (as distinct from the insolent moochers who prefer to chirrup while hopping from cloud to cloud in Nephelococcygia) that 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp understands the difference between civilization and savagery. In reality, contrariwise, it is more than a purely historical question to ask, "How did 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp's reign of terror start?" or even the more urgent question, "How might it end?". No, we must ask, "How does 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp benefit from defending apolaustic tatterdemalions against the just expostulations of the public?" The answer to that question has broad implications. For example, 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp used to maintain that he acts in the public interest. When he realized that no one was falling for that claptrap, he changed his tune to say that escapism is a wonderful thing. 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp is really an unprofessional liar, and shame on anyone who believes him.

Is that such a difficult concept? I cannot believe how many actual, physical, breathing, thinking people have fallen for 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp's subterfuge. I'm completely stunned.

1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp's rantings serve only to make people increasingly insidious. At some point, we'll reach an "insidious event horizon" where everything in the universe will be insidious. At that point, it will no longer matter that if anyone should propose a practical scheme for snapping 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp's subordinates out of their trance, I should be quite disposed to incur almost any degree of expense to accomplish that object. In the meantime, let me point out that 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp's stooges have tried repeatedly to assure me that 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp will eventually tire of his plan to teach naive concepts to children and will then step aside and let us convince the government to clamp down hard on his wisecracks. When that will happen is unclear—probably sometime between "don't hold your breath" and "beware of flying pigs". If 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp believes that going through the motions of working is the same as working, then it's obvious why he thinks that he is a martyr for freedom and a victim of gnosticism. His cause is not glorious. It is not wonderful. It is not good.

We ought to encourage our spirits to soar. That'll make 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp think once—I would have said "twice" but I don't see any indication that he has previously given any thought to the matter—before trying to sucker us into buying a lot of junk we don't need. If there's a rule, and he keeps making exceptions to that rule, then what good is the rule? I mean, his goal is to stonewall on issues in which taxpayers see a vital public interest. This is abject materialism! While criticizing his opponents for enforcing a venom-spouting orthodoxy, 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp himself is trying to enforce a particular orthodoxy: the orthodoxy of pompous, discourteous Marxism. As everyone who has access to reliable information knows, if he would abandon his name-calling and false dichotomies it would be much easier for me to champion the poor and oppressed against the evil of 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp.

1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp is the type of person who can look you right in the eye and, with an expression of the utmost sincerity, tell you any kind of whopper that suits his purpose. It's a pity. In any case, officialism has served as the justification for the butchering, torture, and enslavement of more people than any other "ism". That's why it's 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp's favorite; it makes it easy for him to extract obscene salaries and profits from corporations that replace love and understanding with ageism and hooliganism. Just the other day, some of his acrimonious toadies forced a prospectus into my hands as I walked past. The prospectus described 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp's blueprint for a world in which disreputable personæ non gratæ are free to make the pot of plagiarism overboil and scald the whole world. As I dropped the prospectus onto an overflowing wastebasket I reflected upon the way that 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp says that divine ichor flows through his veins. Such verbal gems teach us that it's a pity that two thousand years after Christ, the voices of dangerous skivers like 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp can still be heard, worse still that they're listened to, and worst of all that anyone believes them. Many the things I've talked about in this post are obvious. We all know they're true. But still it's necessary for us to say them because 1 COOL GUY 13x world Chmp's emissaries have coordinated their propaganda efforts into a superbly-wrought symphony of hatred and destruction.
