#1 Oceanside Pirates at #3 Poway Titans (September 21, 2012)

    Last Meeting: September 30, 2005 Oceanside 46 Poway 0

Oceanside’s number one ranking will be put to the test this Friday when they visit Poway for what could be a Division II playoff preview. Both teams are coming off bounce back wins after suffering losses in week two.

Key Match-Up: Oceanside’s Passing Attack vs. Poway’s Defense

Oceanside senior Israel "Tofi" Paopao has developed into one of the top quarterbacks in the county. His athleticism and ability to improvise has helped him avoid sacks and put points on the board at a fast pace. You can also credit his powerful offensive line and talented pass catchers for the success of the offense. They’re currently averaging 30 points a game.

The Pirates will be challenged when they face a stingy Poway defense led by senior standouts Derek Babiash and Alec Moreno. While they may be two of the more talented defensive players in the county, they will not be able to slow down that offense on their own. The Titans defense will need to limit the Pirates’ scoring opportunities by doing what they're known to do best: Work as a unit and create turnovers. So far this season, the Titans have allowed an average of seven points a game. Holding the Pirates to that amount gives them the best chance to win.

The potential match-up between Babiash & Oceanside receiver Mikah Holder alone makes this game worth watching.
