San Diego Conquistadors -- The Q's
The franchise was founded by Leonard Bloom. But a feud between Bloom and Peter Graham, proprietor of the city-owned, the 14,400 seat San Diego Sports Arena, led Graham to lock the newborn team out of the facility for two years. By the time the conflict was resolved in the fall of 1974, it was too late for a weakened franchise that had been forced to play, in the interim, at such bandboxes as Peterson Gym (3,200 seats) and Golden Hall, a mere ballroom.

I used to do gigs at Golden Hall back when I worked for San Diego Stage & Lighting in the early 90s. I have trouble imagining what it would be like to watch basketball in there.

Atleast they didn't have to play at Spreckles

That would likely have been the fox. I didn't move to SD until college. Spreckles is a big vaudeville-era (more or less) concert hall really near to horton plaza

In 1964 they opened up a new attraction in Mission Bay Park called "Sea World" - I remember telling the wife that it would never get as popular as "POP" (Pacific Ocean Park), and boy was I wrong.

    '64??

    Wow, no ****!!

Back in '80, we took my oldest son (he was 4 then) there. He enjoyed feeding the pilot whales in their tank and had a great time. We were standing on a bridge to the shark pavillion that was over a little creek filled with baby sharks, and I turned away for a second. The little **** (my son!!) had stuck his hand down into the water like he was gonna pet somma the babies!! :icon_eek:

The SW here in San Antone is still a great family place!!  :flag:
