While San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders says the city is not actively working with the Chargers to find a new stadium, he has met twice privately this month with team President Dean Spanos.

Sanders did not disclose the meetings during an interview last week with The San Diego Union-Tribune to discuss the stadium search.

Instead, he said San Diego is playing a "bench role," supporting National City and Chula Vista – the two cities that are pursuing stadium deals – and that the city is communicating with the team.
