Scifres happy to leave 'em hanging

    But Mike Scifres is a golfer himself and he knows winning a long-drive contest isn't the same as winning, period. Sometimes, as Tiger Woods showed at the British Open, it makes more sense to leave the driver in the bag and emphasize control.

    In Scifres' job as an NFL punter, "winning" is scored through the net distance of each punt – gross yardage minus return yardage. And his "iron game" consists of sacrificing a little distance for a lot of hang time.</blockquote>
