Cathedral Catholic Dons at Helix Highlanders (Sept. 16, 2011)

    Last Meeting: 09/17/10 Helix 14 @ Cathedral Catholic 7

After leaving Torrey Pines last week with a close win and Del Mar Heights Road bragging rights, the four-time defending Division III section champion Dons will have their work cut out for them this Friday when they visit La Mesa to take on the high powered Helix Highlanders. Helix is coming off a blow out win over Vista where their turnover free offense and QB hungry defense took over the game. Those same weapons could be the key to their 2nd victory of the season.

    Tale of the Tape:

    HELIX (1-1)

    Division:
    II

    League:
    Grossmont Hills

    Coach:
    Troy Starr (4th year)

    Last Weeks Result:
    Defeated Vista 42-7

    Rankings:
    #3 San Diego Union Tribune
    #4 Max Preps

    Key Players (Last Weeks Performance):
Senior QB Brandon Lewis (27 of 35 Passing for 341 Yards & 3 TDs)

    My Prediction:

Helix is a tough team to beat when their at home. If you don’t believe me ask #1 ranked Eastlake who needed to force a 4th down incomplete pass in the end zone in order to escape with a 21-14 victory in week 1. If Cathedral wants to have a chance in this game, they will need to put up a better offensive performance then they did last week against Torrey Pines and force Helix to make mistakes on both sides of the ball. While I wish them the best, I honestly don’t see that happening. Helix gets their 2nd straight blow out win and sends Cathedral back to Del Mar Heights Road with their first loss of the 2011 season.
