I didn't think Pete Carroll would leave USC.

ESPN is reporting that after firing Jim Mora, the Seattle Seahawks want Pete Carroll and that Pete Carroll has been showing interest in several NFL teams.

He must want to get out of LA while he's still on top, and before an NFL team moves there and steals his spotlight.

USC was in the Emerald Nuts Bowl this year. He's not on top of the PAC 10 anymore.

Also hearing that IF Pete leaves USC, they will go after current OSU HC (fmr. Bolts HC) Mike Riley.

When I first heard it I thought - no way he leaves! But some good points are being made about the state of things at USC. The Basketball sanctions are likely just the beginning and Pete might be looking to get out before the whole thing comes tumbling down...

I agree. In light of impending NCAA sanctions, Pete Carroll leaving USC for Seattle makes a lot of sense. All the recent events surrounding USC happened after the courts ruled that the LLoyd Lake lawsuit can continue in open court, meaning that the deposition of Reggie Bush, Pete Carroll, Lloyd Lake and his receipts all become public record.

Then we have USC sanctioning the basketball program, which many people seem to think is USC offering up their BBall program as a sacrificial lamb to save the football program.

There are reports on many message boards that the NCAA turned down an offer from USC to sanction it's football program by giving up five scholarships for the next few years and a 1 year TV ban.

Joe McKnight gets caught driving a Range Rover in front of the practice facility, in plain site of Pete Carroll and coaches. He subsequently is held out of the Emerald Bowl, after conflicting reports regarding McKnight reporting the vehicle to the compliance department come out. Subsequently, he declares for the NFL draft and will not comment further on the Land Rover.

All of this does not bode well for the USC football program, which appears to be on the verge of major NCAA sanctions, if you believe the tea leaves. All of these events and the timing of them, give credence to the belief that sanctions are coming. In light of these developments, it makes perfect sense that Pete Carroll flees USC and NCAA sanctions for the NFL, more money and greater control.

And to further the rumors, it seems like there are many reports that Mike Garrett and Pete Carroll don't get along. If there are NCAA sanctions in the future, could it be that Garrett would attempt to give up Carroll, like he did Tim Floyd, to save his own job? New university President coming on board and he might want to get a new A.D. in light of the stink associated with the USC athletic department lately....so, Garrett trying to scape goat Pete Carroll may be another compelling reason for Carroll to leave for greener pastures.

I don't know if the rumors are true, but given the timing of these events, makes perfect sense.

How does this affect the Chargers, not much. We got a good thing going and are on a roll.

More circumstantial evidence that SC's gonna get hammered by the NCAA...that would be a reason for Carroll running and taking the millions.

USC's football program always seemed like a dubious operation. Seeing all this recent action suggests that it runs deep and Carroll may be involved or maybe he'll just simply take the most **** for it all. I'd want out and I wonder how it will affect the rest of U$C athletics. <---UCLA Bruin fan I must admit.

And Joe McNight wasn't the first. Remember how Reggie Bush's family suddenly "rented out" a nice house with the Bush name engraved into the cement?

Has he ever had sucess in the NFL?

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4810861

Pete Carroll has reached agreement with the Seahawks on a deal to be their next head coach, multiple NFL sources confirmed early Saturday morning.

Carroll was fully expected to be introduced by the Seahawks as early as Monday, assuming they comply with the Rooney Rule this weekend.

The hangup could be locating a candidate to interview that would put the Seahawks in compliance with the rule, which requires teams to interview a minority candidate for head-coaching hires.

On Friday, Jim Mora became the first Seahawks coach to be let go after one season.

Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier could agree to interview, but he is unwilling to do so if Carroll has been promised full control of the Seahawks -- and multiple sources say he has.

Seahawks CEO Tod Leiweke told Frazier that Carroll definitely does not have Seattle's job.

Believing Leiweke, Frazier will interview for the Seahawks head coach job Saturday morning.

Seattle also contacted the agent for Chargers defensive coordinator Ron Rivera, but as of Saturday morning nothing had been set up.

But the bottom line is, Carroll's agreement with Seattle is "100 percent done," one NFL source close to the situation said.

In a text message to ESPN's Chris Mortensen on Friday, Carroll said, "You know I haven't responded to a NFL question in two years."

But a league source told Mortensen that Carroll was trying to persuade USC offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates to join him in Seattle -- as opposed to Bates pursuing the same position with the Chicago Bears.

Mora attended a meeting Friday morning with management, at which time he was told by Leiweke, the Seahawks' CEO, that he did not win enough games to save his job.

The Seahawks ended the season on a four-game losing streak to finish 5-11.

Mora was shocked by his dismissal, believing that when he was called to Leiweke's office that he would be in a discussion about the team's vacant general manager's job, Seahawks sources told Mortensen.

"This team, more importantly this community, means so much to me that it hurts not being able to see this through," Mora said in a team-issued statement. "I am disappointed I did not get the chance to complete my contract. This is a tough business that sometimes demands immediate gratification."

Thanks for the run @ USC Pete. Enjoy your new job sucking again in the NFL.

I hope Jeff Fisher goes back to USC.
