    Shawne Merriman made a crucial play on pass defense. No surprise there except that the turnover he created was his own interception as opposed to a forced fumble from one of his "Lights Out" hits.

    But the second-year outside linebacker wasn't alone at making plays on a night the Chargers displayed aggressive pass defense in a 31-20 win over the NFC champion Seattle Seahawks Saturday night at Qualcomm Stadium in their third preseason game.

    Antonio Cromartie demonstrated why the Chargers used their first-round draft pick on the Florida State cornerback. He played his receiver tight enough to step up on a quick pass near the line of scrimmage, get a hand on the ball and knock it way.</blockquote>
