Source: Marcus McNeill, San Diego Chargers agree to extension - ESPN

Source: Marcus McNeill agrees to deal

While the stalemate with Pro Bowl wide receiver Vincent Jackson continues, the San Diego Chargers reached an agreement on a five-year contract extension with Pro Bowl offensive tackle Marcus McNeill on Monday, according to a source familiar with the situation.

The five-year extension will be tacked on to the one-year, $630,000 tender McNeill accepted last month. The new deal will be signed by Tuesday.

Chargers, Marcus McNeill agree to new contract
Posted by Michael David Smith on October 11, 2010 10:53 PM ET
Marcus McNeill will be a San Diego Charger for years to come.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Chargers and McNeill have reached an agreement on a five-year contract extension.

McNeill had started every game but two for the Chargers over the first four seasons of his career, but he hasn't played for the Chargers yet this year after waiting until September to sign his one-year tender offer as a restricted free agent.

But now McNeill and the Chargers have put any contractual differences behind them.

Restricted free agent receiver Vincent Jackson, on the other hand, has still made no progress with the Chargers.

Great news. My long shot hope of a back room deal which would be signed if Marcus just showed up might have come true.

    Congrats, MM. You deserve it.

Headline I'd like to see next:

"VJ Fires Agents, Signs Tender and Apologizes to AJ and Fans. Wants to help Chargers Win Super Bowl."

    (I can dream right?) :)

Wouldn't count on him actually playing for us though, he could get benched or be on the inactive roster.

This is GREAT. It should help our oline big time and gives Rivers time to throw. Could be the start of another long winstreak?

Vj coming back week 8 would be awesome but I don't see that happening. Hope so though.

Will the VJ hating continue should he come in, sign and be as big a contributor as he was last season?. I'm not hating on VJ at all, he's been v poorly advised. If he has done anything wrong it is listening to his agents (assume he is over his DUIs). Yes the 'unethical' quote was silly but I'd forgive him that one.

With the numbers that Floyd has been putting up he should hold out for, i dunno, a Brandon Marshal type of contract.

YOU DESERVE IT FLOYD! NO TEAM IS ABOVE YOUR RAW SINGULAR TALENT! Just ask Vincent Jackson! Think VJ will let you borrow his agents? :icon_tease:

I agree Floyd has been a monster, but with his history of Mangina syndrome (getting hurt all the time), if he goes down which is very likely, it will be a HUGE loss for us on the WR end. I just keep hoping VJ comes to his senses and realizes you can win against AJ since he holds a royal flush. He's an idiot for even listening to those greedy agents of his!

Count me probably as the ONLY fan who does not think VJ is an idiot or got bad advise from his agents. The math makes sense for VJ to sit out the whole freaking year.

    Go VJ !!!!!!

    Let me just say...
    1) He had no leverage with the RFA tag.
    2) Two DUIs gave him even less leverage
    3) He's going to lose value after missing an entire season.

Other than that, I can't blame him for wanting to get paid rather than risk injury like Leon Washington.

This is the cliche' of the day........"VJ will lose value."

When VJ signs his next contract, let's revisit this topic of perceived lost value (I am talking dollars and not contribution on the field).

Personally, I think if he does sign his tender and get back on the field, it will take a while for his timing to get down with Rivers. I am not at all convinced that he will make much of a impact and I think that would hurt his $$ value as a FA more than not playing all year
