What do you guys think about this? I know everyone has a hardon for Sean Payton and the Saints but this has been the best year of Marty's coaching carrer...so far.
13-2 in the AFC West(best division in the NFL) aint half bad.

Its the same situation with LT and the MVP, people want to discredit players and coaches and the job they do because of the personell they have around them or in their command.
Do you think Marty should win Coach of the Year honors? :icon_huh:

He has to win one more to have a personal high.

He was 13-3 with the Chiefs once. I doubt he wins tho, we were expected to be good. The Saints and Jets werent.

NOT true. We were picked to finish 3rd or 4th in our division by most if not all the so called "experts".

That said, I think Sean Payton and Eric Mangini have done far mor with way less.

He will be picked by some organizations, but I doubt if he will beat out the saints coach for the AP Coach of the Year.

    You read "Pricksco" huh? LOL
He said we'd go 7-9.
Thats why he was so reluctant to put the Chargers at #1 until late November.

I dont care who has less, I care whos done more. If the Saints were in the AFC do you think they'd have 10 wins right now? I doubt it, they'd be battling it out like the Jets are until the final week.

Deserving, absolutlely yes in my opinion.

But people will say he has tons of talent to work with and his glaring coaching error of the year, Martyball in the Baltimore game, was a pretty visible reminder to people of how his coaching can negatively impact a game. Probably brought back too many memories of the playoff loses in Cleveland and KC for them to check off his name on the ballot.

I am kind of in awe when I look back and realize that with just a few plays in the Baltimore and KC games, this team could have been undeafeated. Wow... But I guess in any loss you can say that...

Yeah, but we got awfully close to an undefeated season. With the early loss to Baltimore nobody really thought of it in those terms, but you are right, we were probably closer than anybody has been in the last 10 years, including Indy last year. Our 2 losses by only 6 points total. Indy in 2005, we beat them by 9 and Seattle beat them by 15 and the games weren't that close.

Nobody is more deserving for Coach of the year than Sean Payton. He turned around the Saints' losing culture in just one year; he wasn't able to slowly build with his own players, like Marty has.

I'd put Mangini a distant second, mainly because I think the Jets had a lot of dumb luck this season. They could easily go 6-10 or worse in 2007.

After Marty win's his first Super Bowl, I don't see why he wouldn't be "Coach of the year" :bolt:

The voting is completed before the playoffs as far as I know. So what he does in the post season won't matter.

Marty has done a good job this year, but when you compare that to what Sean Payton did in NO, it is not close.

I think this may be Marty's best coaching job of his career. Ironically, this also might be the year he has been least involved in the weekly game preparations and in-game decisions.

But hey...it says something about Marty that he was willing to relinquish some of his beloved control to his coordinators and assistant coaches. That alone is a sign of a good coach--when you know how to properly delegate and then let your people do their jobs.

can someone explain to me how Marty isnt in the running? The chargers werent a playoff team last year, and lost Drew Brees to go with basically a rookie QB. Once they let Brees go, many in the media predicted that the chargers would be a 8-8 team and be 3rd in the division behind the chiefs and Broncos. Im sure no one outside of san diego thought the chargers would even win 10-11 games, yet if they dont slip up this week, they will be 14-2, which would be a 5 game improvement from last year.

Also if you look at everything marty has had to deal with this year, i think this could be martys greatest season ever.

Lost Pro Bowl QB and had to go with a guy with zero experiance
Lost starting Outside linebacker (foley) a week before the season started due to gun shot wounds
Lost Best Defensive player to steroid suspension for 4 games (still went 4-0)
Lost other starting OLB (phillips) for 3 games due to injury
Lost starting DE (Castillo) for 5 games to injury
Lost other starting DE (igor) to injury for 3 games
Starting SS got busted for being a dunce.gif (kiel)
Forced to start a rookie Left Tackle
Both starting WRs have missed atleast 3 games (McCardell/Parker)

And yet the chargers should end the season 14-2, a 5 game improvement over last year, with home field advantage throughout

So can someone explain why marty isnt in the running?

Marty should certainly be in the running, but Mangini or Payton will probably win it. I definitely think Marty deserves to be in the top 3.

Marty is going to be, World Championship Head Coach. I don't think he'll mind if one of the other guy's pick up COTY.

There will be a division winner that goes down on wildcard weekend in the AFC. Bank it.
