I was always impressed with him as a player, and how smart he was on the field. That translated to his off the field interviews, and Mike Singletary always came across as one of the brightest players in the game.

His interview just reinforces what I thought of him 20 years ago. Smart, decisive, and carries himself with class and dignity. He just oozes respect.

    His only two problems:

    1. Lack of X's and O's and gameday coaching history.

    2. Has the same initials as Marty Schottenheimer.

singletarys pretty good. Like some have said if they find a better one than him the person will have to be very very good. Just a guess but the players if asked would go through a wall playing for him.

Has has been a leader on the greatest D in the history of the game, played through high school, college, and a HOF Pro Career. He has experience, just not the time on the resume.

I agree, but we still need to see the others, and I don't want to "flippitty-floppitty" again ...

My top three, in no order:

    Singletary
    Ryan
    Rivera

I think one of those has to get the job.

That is the difference between a great coach and a dikhead like Schottenheimer.... great coaches hold players accountable for their mistakes... Marty thinks he is gawd and forgives his players right away and tells them to 'move on'. Marty's mantras are mantras of weakness. It's going to come down to Singletary and Ryan but I know what AJ is looking for and Singletary is going to be the guy.

I watched all of the videos and paid particular attention to the video of Spanos. I don't see him firing AJ anytime soon.

I will have to say that AJ looked terrible...Very stressed! That shirt color.

I liked Mike Singletary as a player. He was definitely one of the leaders on the 85 Bears championship team.... Haven't followed his coaching career all that closely but know he's been successful up to this point.

Yes, Conc. I did not view them until a few minutes ago. Wish I'd seen them sooner.

I liked Singletary... Liked that he said our offense was well put together and implied that he might do some things differently with the defense.

Lots of competition for this HC position.... Should be interesting to follow.

But...but... ESPN said we were stupid for firing Marty now because all the good coaches were taken already...

The three best available even with those hired recently, not including possibly Cam and Wade are on our radar:

    Mike Singletary
    Rex Ryan
    Ron Rivera

    ESPN can SMA and KMD.

I'm having a hard time getting past #1. Singletary was out of the game for ten years, coached inside linebackers for two years, then linebacker coach the last two in Frisco. That's it. No head coach or coordinator experience at any level.

Being impressive behind the podium is nice and all, but the body of work is just not sufficient for me.

That was a very nice feel good piece on Mike. He was a great player and teammate, but he does lack in coaching experience. If we have the time to allow him to grow into the position, I think he'd be a good choice. Most folks in here believe our window is already closing and gaining speed.:bolt2:
