I rated this "old" because the time and date listed on the link does not match the time and date listed on the time stamp of the post.

Was in the stadium & watched it. And yes, Marty deserves just as much of the blame.

It's inevitable when some still want to fixate on Marty to this day.

I don't care about the win/loss at end. If were playing Super Bowl, AJ and Norv can be shipped off to the England Jaguars for some tea and cookies.

I'm assuming you meant if we're not playing in the Super Bowl?

Marty generally, or Marty in this specific game?? Willie Byner fumbled against the donks bc Marty didnt coach him enough then, right?

Thats where you go wrong. The team was in every position to win in '06. We were talking about Marty's 3 seasons, before you changed the subject. People can blame Cro for '09, but I prefer a missed tackle by a FS that led to the last touchdown.

And they weren't in position to win in '09?

And if you're blaming Cro or a missed tackle you're not exactly blaming Norv, now are you?

I'm not even sure we're arguing the same thing here.

And who changed the subject, anyway? I was initially responding to this.

If you guys really want something to debate debate on who was better at conditioning the players. Marty, Ross, Norv.

I'm not saying I agree with the logic. I'm just saying, if we use the same logic for Norv and Marty, then Marty's just as at fault for the 2006 loss.

I decided to bite on the off-topic bone you threw. The original topic was Marty's 3 seasons. Funny how everyone wants to ignore what really happened in '06, and defer to '09, isnt it? Its sad really.

Why compare '06 and '09 at all? One led to the firing of a coach, and the other led to an extension. Its completely different, and I dont get how you can bring up Norv when we are talking about what Marty deserved.

I didn't compare them I responded to the turn the topic had taken and IMM's warped memories of Marty. Chill man. I'm not fighting with you, just making conversation.

Lineman is where he has really struggled. Not sure why he wouldn't go after some real talent here. Especially on the O line. Rivers is a pocket QB with zero scrambling ability. Why wouldn't he surround him with guys that can give him a pocket to work from. I can only hope that this years defense will make it easier on Rivers and not make him feel so under to pressure to win games on his own.

The off topic bone I threw?

I didn't mention the 2006 playoff game once in this entire thread until I responded to this.

And, for the record, I agree with you about 2006. I didn't want Marty fired, especially not because of that.

The only thing I ask for is logical consistency. You can't say the 2006 playoff game wasn't Marty's fault and then fault Norval for the 2009 loss. (or the 2007 AFCCG one for that matter).

Agree. Even if it means making a trade, like the one that got us Roman Oben in 2004 and didn't cost us much. The line looked to get better as the game went on last night, but they still couldn't run block to save their lives

At least you're consistent that way.

It's the ones who want to cite all the circumstances in the '06 loss and let Marty off the hook but then turn around and villainize Norv for his playoff losses that baffle me.

I probably give both of them too much of the blame, but I feel that if we are going to crown a coach a genius if/when we win a SB, we should do the opposite when we fail to meet expectations

I personally don't plan to crown anyone a genius if/when we win a championship.

It's a team sport & that's how I generally dole out the praise.

There were some staggering occurrences in that game which I have a hard time blaming Marty for, but allowing Cam to take the ball out of Tomlinson's hands lies on the HC. When you're ahead and your HoF MVP RB is getting 5 a carry, you don't stop handing him the ball...

Anyway, you're certainly right with regards to the hypocrisy evident in the way some people treat the Marty/Norv playoff experience.
