ALBANY, N.Y. -- Eli Manning has agreed to a new six-year, $97 million contract extension with the New York Giants that will make him among the highest-paid players in the NFL with an average salary of roughly $15.3 million, a source told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen.

    Eli Manning

    Manning

A person close to the talks who asked not to be identified because the deal was not signed says Manning is guaranteed $35 million under the deal which will keep him with the Giants through the 2015 season.

Manning, who led the Giants to a Super Bowl upset of the New England Patriots in February 2008 and was named the MVP of the game, was in the final year of the contract he signed as the No. 1 overall pick in 2004.

Manning took over as the Giants starter midway through his rookie season and he has led New York to the playoffs in each of the past four seasons.

Geez - what will PR get? He's at least 2x as good as this *****.

At least now the waiting to see how his draftmates were going to do is over. Let's get moving, FO.

Agreed but if they agree to something now, it'll be for less because Sheli has a ring and Rivers doesn't.

If that changes this year, expect Rivers to get more money then Sheli, just out of principle :flag:

You're right that Eli has a ring, but the defense won that for him. Of course, I guess the Giants' FO couldn't use that as a bargaining chip or he & his daddy would've taken their blocks somewhere else to play. :icon_rofl:

This is good news. Now the Chargers can do a new deal for Philip and start making their resigns.

Yeah, and we all know why.

Ben Roethlisberger had way more to do with his team's win this past Super Bowl, but he's not a Manning so the voters were free to consider other players.

ECry didn't deserve his MVP award, and Peyton didn't deserve his the year before. But they are both Mannings, and the media's Manning nutsack love trumps all actual performances.

I could not agree with you more, but when you have the ring, and that MVP trophy for that game. We all know that the price of poker goes up.

This is good news for sure. That is less guaranteed money than Stafford got (41m).

Rivers coming in at 85 to 90% of Eli's figures for having no ring sounds about right to me. Get 'er done AJ.

At least it allows us as fans to kinda know what to expect Rivers to sign for. Philip's new deal will be in the same ballpark I would assume.

This is the hard part building and having a good team. NO one player makes a team. YOu spend too much on a player and you can't afford other players that you need.

As much as I like Rivers. If he costs too much that we can't keep other stallwarts like mcneil, merriman and v. jackson then its up in the air to keep Rivers or not.

Qb's are important. But any good one with a brain and alot of good talent around him can win a super bowl. Vs. having a very high paid qb that you have had to let go of other good players because you paid too much for your qb and you wind up just an average team.

Takes at least 22 good and very good players to make a championship team.

Eli won the SB because that guy caught the ball on his helmet in a desperation play. Roethlisberger won because of his defense.

We generally win only if Rivers plays well.

    P. Rivers could accpet a lower contract like Brady did, and A.J. could keep McNeil, Jackson and Merriman.

that would be true if the NFL did not have its salary cap. Next year there will be no more salary cap. With that I don’t see any player accepting a lower pay to help keep other players signed.

The Giants D, particularly the DL's pass rush, won that game. They're the only reason that that desperation pass made a difference. Without the pass rush, Brady would have eaten them alive.

Yep. If your defense holds a record setting offense to 14 points, that's the reason you won. And of course if Assante Samuel catches a fairly easy pick, game over, ECry is the goat (as he rightly should have been).
