Losses keep on coming for the San Diego Chargers.

Team sources told ESPN's Ed Werder on Monday that quarterback Philip Rivers re-injured his sprained right foot in the season-ending 24-21 loss to the New England Patriots on Jan. 14. The injury is severe enough that Rivers will not take part in the Pro Bowl Feb. 10 in Honolulu.

According to the source, Rivers would not have been able to play in the AFC Championship Game had the Chargers gotten past the Patriots. He was initially injured in the final regular-season game, a 27-20 Chargers win over the Cardinals Dec. 31.

Rivers had a breakout season in his first year as a starter after Drew Brees went to the New Orleans Saints. Rivers passed for 3,388 yards with 22 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He had a quarterback rating of 92 and was one of a league-high 10 Chargers named to the Pro Bowl.
