Source: Turner to get $15M guaranteed from Falcons

    Updated: March 2, 2008, 3:34 PM ET

The best available running back in the free-agent market has a new home.

Michael Turner, who has been the Chargers' insurance policy for LaDainian Tomlinson, agreed to a six-year, $34.5 million contract with the Falcons, with $15 million guaranteed, a source told ESPN.com's Michael Smith.

Turner gained 316 yards on 71 carries with one touchdown last season.

Cool that its NFC, funny enough that we actually play against him anyway this year when the Falcons come to the Q.

I know but it'll be four years before we see him again
unless he went to a team I just couldn't stand (Broncos/Raiders/Chiefs/Patriots/maybe Jets) I was going to congratulate him and wish him well.

Oh man I was hoping he'd be like "Oh man screw Atlanta, it's a craphole - I want to stay in San Diego."

But he's good enough to be starting and he deserves a crapload of money.

"We are pleased to be able to add a very talented running back and a player who has produced at a high level in this league when given. We think he's ready to take the next step and have a more prominent role in an offense, and we are happy he decided that opportunity is going to be here in Atlanta."- Dimitroff Falcons GM

Congrats to "The Burner," this was well deserved. I will miss him filling in for LT, but that's life in the NFL. I only hope that we can find another quality backup for one of the best RB's in NFL history.

Man, I hate to see him go, but it was as inevitable as the sun rising and setting. He was just too good to be a backup. We were lucky to have him for as long as we did, and I'll miss him.

His game-sealing run vs. the Colts a couple of seasons ago is one of the great plays in Chargers lore.

    GOOD LUCK BURNER!

I am interested to see where his value is for fantasy football... Late 2nd round? Early 3rd?

Best wishes to the Burner. :icon_toast:

He reminded me alot of Chuck Muncie in his style of running dudes over at will.

Now we need to get some beef.

I know everyone loved Turner, but we need some quality fatasses up front and now or yesterday.....

Beef is definitely on AJs menu this shopping season.

I liked Mike. Wish him well. Atlanta just took their first real step towards getting back on track. A good dude to hitch their wagon to.

I'm glad MT has bagged on contract that will stabilize his life and that of his family. I'm even gladder he's not in our division. I get the feeling that you and I are about the only people seriously pimping FAT BOYS.

He deserves the contract and an opportunity to carry a team. Though he'll have a long way to go to turn the Falcons around!!

Not so fast, you guys. I'm all about the beef this year, too, especially on the right side of the OL & at NT. I'm hoping for a Brandon Albert, Nicks, Otah - someone with a big push, quick feet, & nasty as hell. For some reason, just can't seem to warm up to Cherilous that much. We'll see, but all indications seem to point towards this being AJ's big goal this year, too.

I will add one disclaimer. If Kenny Phillips is still out there at 27, I won't be sad if we take him.

    Absolutely.

This is a great example of a guy doing and saying all the right things and getting his come'up'in's in the end.

OOPS! Well, I DID say about the only. There are a few of us beef mongers here. The cream of the O Lineman will probably be gone. Either side helps. I have hopes for Erik Robertson's reprise in camp and I suspect Jeromey will be improved as well. Balmer would be a decent pick and once he developed Igor could move inside. Rumors that AJ will move people for picks is the joker in the deck. Which of our 52 cards will leave the deck when AJ plays Fish?

The beef on the forum boards around draft times gets largely neglected. Everyone (or most everyone) gets woodies over the bling bling players. I want ballers up front first and foremost....and then lets look outside the trenches.
