For the third-consecutive week, a Charger has won AFC Special Teams Player of the Weeks honors, and a Bolt also took home the Defensive Player of the Week award as well.

Return specialist Darren Sproles earned his first Player of the Week award and cornerback Antonio Cromartie was named the conference’s Defensive Player of the Week after propelling the Chargers to victory Sunday night against the Colts.

Sproles was recognized following his best performance of his career Sunday night. The third-year player returned the opening kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown to give the Chargers a 7-0 lead 13 seconds into the game.

Later in the first quarter, Sproles returned Hunter Smith’s punt 45 yards for his second score of the night and the second of his career. He added one fair catch on a punt later in the game, and the Colts chose to kick away from him on kickoffs the rest of the night.

A week after grabbing Special Teams Player of the Week honors for his 109-yard return of a missed field goal, Cromartie garnered the Defensive Player of the Week award for his three-interception performance against Peyton Manning and the Colts. His third interception set up a touchdown drive that put the Chargers up 23–0. In addition to his three acrobatic catches, Cromartie recorded six solo tackles and four passes defensed.

Cromartie is also a candidate for the GMC Defensive Player of the Week. Fans can vote by clicking here. The second-year cornerback leads the NFL in interceptions and is just three shy of the Chargers’ single-season record.

Sproles honor didn’t come without stiff competition. Cleveland’s Josh Cribbs returned a kickoff 90 yards that led to a Browns touchdown and added a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown against Pittsburgh. On the season, the former Kansas State Wildcat is tied for sixth in the NFL in punt return average (11.9 yards per return) and seventh in kickoff return average (28.1 yards).

Sproles is the third different Charger in the last three weeks to be names AFC Special Teams Player of the Week. Two weeks ago, punter Mike Scifres received the award for his stellar performance against Houston, and Cromartie took the honor at Minnesota in Week 9 for his record-breaking performance.

Yeah, that one goes in the no-brainer category.

Cro didn't even get defensive player of the week after the Texans game. So it wouldn't surprise me at all if he got jipped again!! :icon_evil:

    Two Touchdowns
    Two Interceptions
    and a Fumble Pick Up

    Who did better?!!!!

2 of the guys who were getting slammed on the forum a month or so ago. I was not a big Sproles supporter (basically because he hadn't broken one yet) and wasn't sure if he should be back there returning when we have a dude like Cro on the team. I even told my wife before the opening kick when I saw Darren run out to the field "Fuk, why isn't Cromartie back there? Gawddammit!!!!" I happy I was wrong about DS. Cro I've been waiting for him to blow up and he's been going off for the last 4 weeks.

I've always liked Sproles returning kicks:tup: Glad he won the award, without his 2 TD's we would have LOST THE GAME.:icon_tease:

It would help if he did that again against the Jags, to give us a little cushion if our offense chokes again.

The one thing my wife commented on was how fast Cro was because he had to slow down when he was escorting Sproles who was in full afterburners and ..... we had to go home to see it. :icon_sad:

They have to consider Cro on a reverse. The Chargers set one up with Tim Dwight that was probably the deepest set up I have ever seen. It was set up about 20 behind the LOS and by the time Dwight hit the LOS, he had a 20 yard head start of steam.

Or just send his *** deep .....
