Only thing Matthews has to make up is the swing pass! Hopefully he can do that to perfection this year.

The most important thing that Sproles did was protect Rivers on 3rd and long...... one of our RBs has to learn to pass protect.

Nope sorry. I saw him hurdled too many times to say he was a good protecting RB. Does RM have to improve, you bech'a. Was Sproles all that and a bag o'chips, hellz nah.

I think you're exaggerating the number of his breakdowns.... he was still far better then any of the others. That is something we have to change..... #imjustsaying

Honestly with the amount of times he got lit up last year, I'm not sure this will be a big of a loss on the field as some expect. As far as a loss in the locker room, that sounds like it is a different story..

Totally agree, especially on the kicking game where I got tired of watching him fall as soon as a defender was close enough to breath on him.

I think that's overstated...... 5 yards will make a difference, but it won't remove kick returns from the game..... there are other noodle legged kickers in the NFL, you know. ;)

How am I exagerating a number when I didnt give one I generalized? I think you are hyperexagerating his proclaimed awesomeness in that catagory. He was better than RM, but too small by far to be an excellent blocker.

The difference gap between Sproles protection abilities and the other backs is pretty wide. Hester was bad, and Mathews not even worth discussing. For his size, Sproles was an excellent pass protector. He used his low center of gravity and quickness to his advantage. Did he occasionally get overpowered?....... sure, but he didn't whiff like the others did.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not bemoaning the loss of Sproles, I think it was time to move on. That doesn't mean that I'm blind to the things that he did still do well. He's not a legitimate returner anymore, and his big playmaking ability isn't what it was. What he is, is a versatile player, just not as effective as he once was.

In terms of 3rd down running back, i think Hester could be in with a shot, he is a better blocker than Tolbert or Mathews, and he can catch relatively well.

With regards to replacing the screen pass, i think this is where we will miss him the most, he definitely has a better burst of acceleration than any of our other backs, and was a better receiving threat, but maybe we'll see Mathews improve in this category.

I think perhaps the team wants to take a fresh look at the back field. They have brought in a bunch of FA RBs and FBs. I think if someone like Frank Summers were to catch the coaches eyes any change could be made.

Considering they just cut a UDFA WR and replaced him with a FB, I think there may be something to that idea. ;)

I think it's funny that the Buffalo press are so bored with Bills football that they are writing articles about the Chargers.

It's a good thing the hole Sproles left behind isn't that big. a little duct tape and bailing wire ought to get the job done.
