Yea I wouldn't be surprised if we let him go. 7+ mil is a lot to give him another year, and I'm not so sure he'll sign a long term deal. So that leaves letting him go to FA.

At best we offer him the lowest RFA tender and get a shot to match any deal (no compensation).

He's not worth seven and he's not worth a HUGE amount. Let's be honest; he's a good KR/PR who is also a good scatback. He can't carry the load nor is he even a good pure back up - he is a specialist. If someone wants to pay up big for him by all means go right ahead. BUT hand over a second minimum for him

Yeh. What about getting reggie bush if sproles is released? I hear reggie is getting cut. Reggie+mathews could be kinda nice!

That would require us to pay him $7+ million and there's no guarantee anyone will want to trade a 2nd for him.

I made a thread on this a while back when it was reported the Saints were thinking about cutting him. I wouldn't be opposed but it would depend on what Bush wants and if we can't re-sign Sproles.

Yeh as long as its not more than what sproles wanted. Bush is a great receiver and he might be an even better channge of pace back than sproles for our offense plus he would play at home!

he's an RFA this year not a UFA, ergo we can give him a transitional tag of a second, first or first and third. So a second wouldn't be a huge chunk of change and probably someone would want him. Maybe up it to a first if your confident about the market but idk about that.

and I do like the idea about Bush but that's ONLY IF
    1) We lose Sproles
    2) He doesn't want 7 mil a year or whatever
    3) He understands his role is to be an expanded Sproles (a few carries, some time at wide out/screen game, punt return and kick return)

    What's the Hutchinson/Burleson-style poison pill?

    and

Can we sign him to a lower number?

The poison pill in the contracts were set up to guarantee the entire contract, if the player was not the highest paid for that group on the team. Hutchinson's salary was set to be lower than Walter Jones, but the highest on the Vikings if he played there. The Seahawks retaliated with Burleson's contract.

I would love that combo, not sure we could afford Bush after we re-sign McNeil, Vjack, and Floyd though.

Sproles is a RFA, and if you put a RFA tender on him (anything higher than the lowest which would net a 4th? according to PFT) then we'll be paying him 7+ million, because it'll be 110% of his previous season's salary which was 6+ million.

that's a FRANCHISE tag, same as we put him on this past year
an RFA tag has multiple levels based on draft picks, so we could hit him with a second rounder tag which would be in the 1million range and someone could grab him

These look like they were from last year but the rule still applies.

The RFA second round tag is a no brainer-the only way to go. If Bush really is available for the 3rd rounder, I would have to give that serious consideration.

thats why they have to get sproles signed to a long term deal. As well as mcneil. Where you can spread the money out. Got to do that with as many rfa's as we can this year.
