    Associated Press

PITTSBURGH -- Steelers safety Troy Polamalu injured his left knee late in the first half of Thursday night's season opener against the Tennessee Titans and was ruled out for the rest of the game.

Polamalu was injured when Titans tight end Alge Crumpler fell on him as Steelers defensive end Aaron Smith blocked a 31-yard field-goal attempt by Rod Bironas with about three minutes left in the half. Polamalu was attempting to pick up the ball.

There was no immediate word about the severity of Polamalu's injury, but he didn't immediately leave the field for medical treatment. As he left the sideline, Polamalu appeared to gesture as if the injury wasn't serious. Before he was hurt, Polamalu made a one-handed interception and led both teams in tackles with six.

A two-time All-Pro safety, Polamalu has been chosen for the past five Pro Bowls. He is considered one of the NFL's premier defensive players.

That looked very painful on TV. At first he looked like he got push into the splits and I thought he popped his groin.

Then the replay showed his knee getting all bent the wrong way.

Sorry Troy, but anything that drops the talent level of the competition is good for the Chargers. :bolt:

I'm with you. No one felt sorry for the Chargers when LT, Gates, Rivers, Merrman, Big Mac etc went down with injuries. Why should we?

I will be heartless here as well.

I love it when a Super Star Competitor that we play this year goes down to an injury. The opportunity is now out there for the San Diego Chargers to capitalize on this. So let us Capitalize on this. :icon_twisted:

Hey, the Bolts have been done in by injuries so why not everyone else. Don't wish it on anyone but take it if you can get it and don't look back.

In the first quarter Palu looked real dangerous. Won't be bad missing him in week 4.
Hope our defense comes not far behind both of them Titans
and Steelers, but our Offense can get more more points on the board. Don't blame Kaeding, look at Bironas.

I feel bad in a way because Polamalu seems like a very nice guy and plays the game the way it should be played. But at the same time, the bolts missed out on two superbowl appearances because of injuries to key players. So if injuries to other teams help the chargers get a championship so be it.

I don't really care about him missing a regular season game vs. us, I'd prefer he miss a post season one, but if the steelers lose in his absence...Great!

I don't like to see any players going down to injury, but you have to play the cards that are delt to you. We've had two season in a row with major injuries and kept on going.

Truth. Polamalu is a great player, but he has had a ton of injury problems since his first year in the league, so this isn't actually a surprise development when you look at his career as a whole. Still, sad to see him go down, but I doubt it will effect that defense too much.

The news of the Madden curse is making it way around other news outlets.

Anyone remember when LT turned Madden down for the cover, saying they didn't offer him enough money. Good move LT. Even though you were hurt in the Championship game, you still won your 2nd rushing title that year (1,474 yards)

I also wanted to say that during the first quarter, Troy was kicking ***, making plays, making tackles (everyone see his kick *** interception), and I said to myself, I wonder how long into the season before he gets hurt, playing with that intensity. Well, I didn't last to halftime of the first game.

Remember when the Bolts passed on him in the draft. I hate Pittsburgh, but I would love to have this dude on the Bolts.

I am glad he will miss the game against us in 4 weeks.

Fitz may or may not be safe.

This is the first year they put two on the cover.

Who knows if the curse hits both or just one of em.

I bet next year they try and get around it and just put the NFL shield on the cover....then we get a lockout.
