They are so good that they don't even need a punter. but they need to burn up a roster spot, guess that is why they signed Scifres.

sounds to me Scifres will be more of a mentor to their draft pick rather than his competition. Good luck in Carolina.

They didn't draft a punter this year.

Their punter last year was Michael Palardy, who I assume was an UDFA last year because his player page says last year was his 1st year and he's not listed in the 2015 draft log.

So, I presume he'd be who you are referring to?

Any rate, they're not going to carry two punters so one can mentor the other, but I suppose Scifres can give him some pointers in camp before they cut him?

I don't know how well Palardy did last year but I'd presume Scifres is being brought in as a form of competition for him at the very least.

People are saying that Scifres is already a leader for the Panthers and players have told him to yell at teammates/grow his beard out like he did in SD if that is who he is.:D

No offense, Hex (sincerely) :D, but my thinking was pretty much the opposite of the headline:

If I'm a 35.6 year-old punter, who had my best days about 4 seasons ago, and I've been
released by the only team I've ever played for...I gotta think that after two weeks, three weeks...
38 freakin' infernal days, I've probably given up and begun to accept that my career is done.
I'm guessing that May seemed like an eternity for poor Mike.

That said, I'm on the fence about whether or not the Chargers let him go prematurely...
time will tell, of course...and obviously I'll hope Kaser becomes spectacular...

They've got some 29 yr old punter called Swayze Waters too for chrissakes. If Mike can't win that job I'll eat my hat.

Looks like Mike might just be SP bound if he makes the team. Hell, he has friends in the right places so I'd guess he's got the inside track on this one.

"Swayze Waters" :cautious: sounds like something they'd warn you about, if you were down in the Everglades...

(or a really crappy punter who lasted just 16 days with the CFL's Edmonton Eskimos...overall with 6 clubs since 2009...Swayze must have a silver tongue, because he manages to keep getting signed...but I don't think he has actually punted a single time in an NFL game, despite being drafted by the Lions over 7 years ago!!!)
