I heard a commercial on the radio yesterday that the San Diego Union Tribune, our esteemed local newspaper, is going to be "hiding" 10 sets of playoff tickets for the Divisional Round in newspapers around town in this Sundays edition. BRILLIANT! Except they aren't including it in home subscriptions, only copies purchased from either a machine or at a store. :icon_eek:

This might be about the dumbest thing that I have ever heard of. What is going to stop someone from plunking the $1.50 into the machine and walking off with the entire stack of 25 newspapers? What is going to stop Joe Convenience Store from rifling through every single paper before he opens? The possibilities for something fishy to occur are countless, and I think that the UT is going to lose their asses on this incredibly poorly thought out promo.

That said, if you live in my neighborhood, see you at the local machine around 4:00am.

Exactly what I was thinking.

BTW, if anyone wants a free copy of Sundays paper, pm me after about 7am Sunday. I should have tons of extras.

I think that was the buzz they were trying to create, but they didn't think that there are people that have less integrity than others and would see this as an opportunity to scam.

I am betting the actual sales numbers are down by about half, and the number of papers gone into circulation is up by about 50%.

People might start stealing winning UT's off other people and the tickets for themselves

Consider what you can resale the tix on ebay for. Not just Charger Fans are going to be looking to score.

You guys are so cynical. Of course the average guy on the street, the UT truck drivers and various minimum wage earning convenience store clerks are going to respect the rules of the contest. :icon_rofl:

The SDUT can do this contest, but the delivery person just can't throw the paper on my driveway and hits my lawn while the sprinklers are going.

BTW, you can submit an entry at the SDUT offices to win tickets.

A smarter thing for the SDUT to have done would be to announce that they will choose 10 subscribers names from their list, at random, to receive playoff tickets. All people who are subscribers as of January 7, 2007 will be eligible.

That way, they would likely increase their subscribership for at least 90 days. Maybe even double it. :D

The papers are wrapped in plastic. I don't think the average joe can rip open the plastic shrink wrap and scan every news paper at a local liquor store (at least not with the clerk watching him). I see more of a problem with the news paper vending machines. But nonetheless, it is a nice come up for whoever finds it.

Can't the delivery guys get ahold of the papers before the plastic is put on? :icon_shrug:

Here ya go, we can do an E-Bay auction, and we will have a "Bundle" of un-opened and unchecked papers from a "MACHINE", and we can sell them.

HAHAHA!. That's like when I'm trying to find Yugioh cards for my son. On ebay they sell unopened packs, saying "there's a very good chance these packs contain one of the following: ".

    Umm, no thank you.

OMG this is too funny. This nice gesture will prolly turn into an embarrassment for the UT...

Imagine them wanting to interview the winners... EC, Comp. three delivery drivers. 5 convenience store clerks... :icon_rofl:
