    No, this isn't a political thread. :icon_tease:

Just curious about what the BT members do to make a living. :icon_shrug:

Me, I'm a land surveyor. Been at it for a little over 2 years. Big career change - I was in the IT field for 20+ years, finally got completely sick of it. I'd always been interested in surveying, so I took the leap. It can be very tough work, but I love being outdoors & not having to play office politics. I don't bring my work home with me & there's very little stress. Don't make much money, but I'm WAAAAAYYYYY happier.

So - what do you do?

I'm a CNC machinist. I work for a large, privately owned company that is in the UAV business. As a side business, I also own an online referral service that promotes small to medium sized machine shops in the greater San Diego area.:flag:

    Good for you!!!

That's what I'm trying to achieve now. I got sick of standing on the corporate blanket and I'm busting my a** for them, then having it yanked out from under me when hard times come along.
So now I'm busting my own a** for me and chasing the payoff.

I currently work as an technician in the automation department for a company that manufactures, imports & sells machine tool accesories.

For the 16 years before that I worked as a stagehand/roadie/lighting designer/production coordinator.

The current job is very stable with set hours that allows me to be around for my wife and kid. The old job was alot more fun.

I work for an oil company on a pipeline system as an electrical tech (23 years). Just recently I became a corrosion tech on the same system. I love the job. In the spring and summer I am out on the right of way on a 4 wheeler enjoying the outdoors.

I run my own I.T. Consulting business. Did that after working at a local biotech company for 11 years, where I was a senior sys admin/coodinator. Love working for myself where it's just me, myself & I running the show.

I'm a Registered Nurse (R.N.) working as the director of nursing services for an assisted living facility. AL is sort of a midway point between retirement communities and nursing homes, it's for folks who need some help with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, medication management etc. but who don't need 24-hour licensed nursing care.

I've worked medical/surgical floors (hospital), nursing homes, ICU, and maternity care, but my specialty is geriatrics. Good thing I like caring for older people, because I'm getting to be one myself along with 76 million other Baby Boomers and I have a good idea of what's coming up. And it ain't pretty, unless we start taking better care of ourselves STAT!

I used to own an IT consulting business as well. One of my customers grew from 3 employees to close to 200 and I was raking in the cash until they went out of business. I'm also worked as a sys admin/network admin/IT manager/and even once as a programmer analyst for several companies in the San Diego area.

Now I'm back to the big corporate gig working for a huge telecommunications company basically doing technical project management.
