OK, so I was giving a calculus quiz yesterday to several different classes that I TA for, which gave me a few hours to ponder the Chargers, and I was thinking about this topic. Some interesting things came up.

Obviously the Colts do have to lose one more game. If they lose one more game, we don't have to be perfect. We could lose one of the last two games (against NFC opponents) and be OK.

That would leave us with the same overall record as the Colts, and the same AFC record, but thanks to that Titans loss (remember I am assuming we win the next two), we would have a better record against common opponents (Den., Cincy, Tenn, Buff) We would be 5-0 in those games and Indy would be at best 4-1.

But what if NE and Balt, don't lose again, then we'd all be tied at 13-3? Well, if we all end up 13-3, the colts, the ravens and us would all have the same conf. record (again assuming we only lose one of the last two). The Patriots would then be out of the running. With the three remaining teams we then go to games against common opponents as head to head wouldn't apply since the colts and ravens didn't play each other. Those common opponents would be the bills, broncos, titans and bengals (same as above). The Ravens lost to the Broncos so we would be given the number 1 seed in this situation in spite of losing to the Ravens.

Again this all hinges on the Colts losing one more and us winning the next two, but it could very well bring up the possible strange scenario of going into the last week with the top seed up for grabs and there being nothing we could do to get it for ourselves.

Interesting scenario... We just need the damn Colts to lose. I think that the next two games are a lock for us.

To get Home field advantage, we need to be one game better then the Colts. If we both teams have the same record, then the tie breaker goes to the Colts, and that is because we have lost 2 games to AFC Teams, the Colts have only lost 1. The Cowboys stopped the Colts win streak this year.

    I agree.

I really should have summed up my argument that winning the next two games and the Colts losing one more is essential, but past that, things look really really good for us.

The Colts have to lose one more game period, no matter what. But if they do that gives them 2 losses in the AFC (all of their remaining games are against AFC teams). So if they lose one more and we happen to lose in Seattle, the don't have the conf. tie breaker anymore.

The Colts will lose at least one more game. They are at Jacksonville on Sunday, who always play the Colts hard. Then they have Cincinatti at home whose defense has stepped up and whose offense can match Indy's. Of course neither are a match for the Chargers. I think the Colts will lose the next two games.

Another thing working in our favor for conference record standings is the Colt last 4 games are against AFC opponents (Jaguars, Bengals, Texans, Dolphins).

We only have two AFC games left and everything is on the West Coast (3 games at home and one at Seattle on X-mas eve).

I am going to go ape **** if we get an AFC Championship here at home. :icon_party:

But if the Colts lose another conference game, which is the scenario proposed, and we win our last two conference games, we would have the same conference record as the Colts.

Jacksonville should have beaten Indy earlier this year, but they got away from their running game that was absolutely gashing the Colts. With Taylor and Maurice Drew, the Jags have a very good chance at running for 200 yards, controlling the clock and winning the game this Sunday.

You're right. Jacksonville has gotta know that and will be looking to run the ball down their throats. I call Jacksonville 35-31 over Indy.

If they lose twice, we actually can't lose another game unless Balt. does as well due to head to head. I know it sounds weird, but that's the way it would be.

Now i am all for them losing twice and Balt losing another game, if that were to happen, I think we are a lock for #1

If Verizon FIOS carried the NFL Ticket and the NFL Network, I would drop Directv in a heartbeat. I want the fast internet access primarily because nothing even comes close.

Until they offer the NFL Ticket, I am stuck with DTV.
