Can he stay on the field. That is the question everyone is asking from the time we signed him.

Remember, we didn't get rid of anyone for him he could only make us better, not worse. We still have the same secondary

I know, I was huge on the Bob Sanders signing. Even if we just have him for 10 games we'll be better for it.

Its just unreal how brittle the guy is.

We all expected this. Except AJ whose backup plan is Gregory and Oliver.

So the Colts doctors are better than ours then. No surprise there. It'd be great were he to prove them wrong though.

(i.e. they made the decision to move on from him)

If the Colts could have kept him for the price we are paying him, they would have.

Now, as for not costing us anything... I don't know if I agree. If he can't play when we need him, then all the experience and 'gel-ing' with the team will be wasted on him when we could have found another solution from the start.

Having said that, I think it was the right choice/gamble given the free agent class this year.

With the imjury problems sanders has i wouldn't be surprised if he spontaneously combusted one of these days.

    Sanders calls absence a "precaution
    Written by

Chargers strong safety Bob Sanders said he will confer with Norv Turner on Tuesday "and go from there."

Sanders missed Sunday's game against Kansas City but sounded as if it might be a one-game absence.
He said the decision for him to sit last week was Turner's and was "a precationary thing."

Sanders said the swelling in his knee that began in the aftermath of the Chargers' Sept. 18 game at New England has nothing "to do with any prior thing I've had." He was responding to a question about his recent injury history. He missed all but eight games from 2008-10, including knee injuries in 2008 and '09.

"My career is not really about showing people how tough I can be," Sanders said. "I've been down that road. Right now, I'm just trying to be smart."

Sanders signed a one-year contract with the Chargers, who believed his play and leadership would add a missing element in their secondary. The 2007 NFL Defensive Player of the Year came out of the preseason unscathed and played 102 of the Chargers' 117 defensive snaps in the first two games.

Bob Sanders experiment is finished. Chargers did not think various maladies would allow him to contribute. He has been placed on IR.

Bob Sanders has been placed on injured reserve, ending what the Chargers hoped would be a one-year revival for the revered safety that would also bolster their secondary.

Sanders was signed in the hope he could remain healthy enough to contribute for the season. But he developed swelling in his knee after the New England game and was unable to play last week. The Chargers do not believe that injury or myriad other maladies will allow him to be effective this season.

Steve Gregory started in place of Sanders on Sunday against Kansas City and played every snap as Sanders was inactive. The Chargers signed Paul Oliver last week for depth at the position but had hoped Sanders could come back with rest.

Bob Sanders big part of decision. He doesn't think he can be the player he's been and still wants to be.
