So we need to work out the demons that haunt us...

So who would be your top choices to replace McCoy?

    Mine:
    1) Josh McDaniels
Hoping he learned more from Bilichick than the other flops who fell off the Bilichick tree.

    2) Sean McDermott
A defensive minded coach could be what this team needs, so long as they dont fall into the Martyball pit of despair.

    3) Jim Schwartz
The resurgence of the eagles this season will draw him some looks, another defensive coach with head coaching experience.

    4) Mike Shula
His work in Carolina has been impressive.

Ken Whisenhunt on an interim basis, with the opportunity to have the interim tag removed if this team improves & learns to close out games.

Not me, although when he took that job vice going to Detroit, it surprised me - the Lions job looked more attractive to me on it's face & especially QB- wise, and had Ken been hired there, he'd still be there like Caldwell is today.

His lenghty tenure in Pittsburgh' s organization and the job he did in Arizona, coupled with the improvement that he has twice brought to our offense convinces me that he can do the job for us.

    Matt Patricia.......

I doubt he would take the job.....but he would be my choice.

I would make the switch now, gives him 12 games to set the tone and learn the players.

Another name to consider, (although we probably wouldn't have a shot at him until about February) is Pittsburgh's OC Todd Haley. He's definitely looking like a strong candidate for a 2nd stint as an NFL Head Coach - his time as KC's coach saw him win the division, and gain familiarity with the rest of the division - we could certainly do worse!

Ken Whisenhunt: I'm a pretty big fan of his. He has his faults, but I think on the whole he is a good coach and would be a much more effective leader. If the FO is smart, they'll fire McCoy now and give Whiz the reigns so they can know what they have (to a greater degree).

David Shaw: I've been very impressed with what he's been able to do at Stanford since Harbaugh left. He has NFL roots and runs a pro-style system. He strikes me as the type of college guy who could successfully make the leap.

Matt Patricia: If we go the coordinator route, Patricia is my favorite out there. He has NFL background on both sides of the ball, and his unit has been lights out despite a lot of personnel turnover. The Belichick tree is scary, but I would try it.

I would also add Chuck Pagano to the list if he was let go in Indy. I actually think he's a pretty good coach, but he's hamstrung by one of the worst GM's in the league. Telesco is no great shakes, but he's easily better than Grigson and would give Pags more to work with here.

Jim Harbaugh, he had been a winner at every level. Pay him, and just let him do his thing. But of course, the Spanos gene.

I like Shaw but I doubt Spanos ever hires a black head coach

I wouldn't see him going anywhere unless he was offered the kind of money most teams wouldn't offer to convince him to leave his current position.

Michigan is his dream job and, on top of that, they're paying him NFL level salary to be at that dream job.

Yeah, even if Harbaugh expressed in an interest in Chargers job, Spanos family would not pay him, but even if they open their wallets, never in a millions years would Spanos tell John Spanos to get out of Harbaugh's way, and let him...... win.

Matt Patrcia is the coach in my avatar and I believe he is the best candiate along with Josh McDaniels and Tom Coughlin.

I don't believe any of the above will be hired, until the parasities knowns as John Spanos and Tom Telesco are removed. Remember John Spanos was a key member in hiring Telesco and is his superior and then John and Tom teamed up with Dean and advisor Ron Wolf selected Mike McCoy as the coach.

We missed out on Bruce Arains.
We missed out on Mike Zimmer.
We missed out on Andy Reid.

and after the 2014 had we fired Mike McCoy

We missed out on Todd Bowles
We missed out on Gary Kubiak
We missed out on Jack Del Rio
We missed out on Dan Quinn

Tom Telesco and John Spanos have to go.

There aren't many former Chargers about whom I'd say:
"I just can't stand that guy!"
but J. Harbaugh heads the list....

He would be an interesting choice.......

Very creative, loves being way outside the box.....

Pro players would love playing for him, as win or lose, he lets you go for it.

He is a winner at the college level.

What do you guys think about John Pagano as an interim coach?

He seems like the personality that guys could rally behind.

None of those coaches, aside from Mike Zimmer - who has been passed up by a number of teams throughout the league for a long time and Bruce Arians interested me or interest me to this day.

Todd Haley and Josh McDaniels are at the top of my list. They've been there since 2015. I'd like to stay away from the Belicheck tree, but McDaniels is an exception. Easily the best offensive coordinator in the game, even putting up a goose egg yesterday at home against the Bills, you can't fault him for the miscues that happened throughout that game. He made the right play calls, but Brissett's fumble, Bolden's drop and Gostowski's miss all effected the outcomes of that game.

NO on C, and McDaniels, he is successful under Belicheat. It'd be McCoy 2.0.

Oh, and that goes for Patricia too.

It seriously needs to be the end of Spanos family members having nothing to do with football decisions. I get that Jon Spanos was a ball boy, and played HS football, and rapidly advanced from scout to head of scouting because of his brilliance.

Again no on C, yes on Jim Harbaugh!

I like Haley, I think that he and McDaniels are both guys who are very talented and hopefully could learn from failed first tries.
