B4L has put forth that Brian Billick is the savior of the team. As he is apparently incapable of looking up stats to support his erratic position, I have done it for him.

I find this concept (Billick as head coach) laughable at best. In 9 seasons as the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens, Billick’s team only had 5 seasons with a winning record. His team only won their division twice in those 9 seasons. This is not the markings of a great coach in my opinion, but lets continue to dig, shall we?

Billick did led the Ravens to a 34–7 victory over the New York Giants in Super Bowl XXXV, the franchise's only Super Bowl appearance. The Ravens took advantage of their vaunted defense, which allowed an NFL record-low 165 points in the regular season, during the playoffs to advance to and win Super Bowl XXXV.

2002, Baltimore ranked 26 in the league in overall offense. 16th in Rushing, 27th in passing. Not impressive stats for a self proclaimed offensive guru.
2003, Baltimore ranked 21 in the league in overall offense. 1st in Rushing, Dead last in passing. Impressive to lead the league in rushing, but a balanced attack is needed.
2004, Baltimore ranked 31 in the league in overall offense. 9th in Rushing, 31st in passing. Drop in rushing, and a very slight improvement in passing. Is this making anyone other than B4L drool?
2005, Baltimore ranked 24 in the league in overall offense. 21st in Rushing, 22nd in passing.
2006, Baltimore ranked 17 in the league in overall offense. 25th in Rushing, 11th in passing. A passing improvement, rush continues to digress.
2007, Baltimore ranked 22 in the league in overall offense. 16th in Rushing, 23rd in passing.

This is indicative of Billick’s tenure as an offensive minded head coach. Not once that I am aware of did his coached offenses ever rank in the top HALF of the league.

On December 31, 2007, Billick was fired from his position as head coach of the Baltimore Ravens along with his entire staff. This came after a season in which the team went 5–11, including 1–5 in the division, and lost to the otherwise winless Miami Dolphins.

Now some posters will say this is the answer to the Chargers woes. I have to question the thought process behind this as just grasping at the latest flavor of the month. Yes Billick does have a ring, but like a few other coaches with a ring it has precious little to do with him. Billixks offensive schemes coupled with any other defense that season, and Billick would NOT have that ring.

Some posters give him a pass for his poor showing as a coach, but the bottom line is HE never did his job. Which was to give the Ravens an offense the team could win with. Bottom line, that is what is important. Just say no to the flavor of the month, no to Billick.

    B4L, Google is your friend.

    Thanks for the info.

I wonder why the HC HAS to be either the OC or DC?

Can't we hire one of each?

    Like most teams do???

Anybody is capable of doing that and I did use Google to provide you with the Ravens Offensive Roster in that other thread. So quite pounding your chest and flexing your forum muscles!!!

As for all this information you've provided... I'm not talking about bringing in Billick as an OC. I'm talking about bringing in Billick as a HC.

As I mentioned earlier, what we had with Marty was solid unity...
    Marty... Solid HC
    Cam... Solid OC
    Wade... Solid DC

We can have that again with different people.
The biggest job of the HC is multi tasking. That's something that Warren Sapp, Jerry Rice, and some of his other former players said he can't do.

Again... who did he and the Ravens OC have to work with?
As I remember for Quarter Backs, they had Chis Redman, Kyle Boller. The only decent QB was McNair but he was on his last legs.

So on the offense, he was unable to make a turd smell like a rose. Not many coaches would.
But how about taking the entire package, seeing what you have to work with, and making the whole thing work?
THAT'S WHAT A HC IS SUPPOSE TO DO!!!!

So he's a former OC and he didn't make the Ravens into an offensive machine. So What? He got them a Super Bowl title and kept them competitive. They got 6 good seasons out of him. In each of those season, they either made it to the playoffs of just missed it.

Though if he comes here, he'll have plenty of offense to work with.
He had very little in Baltimore.

If we won a game due to a rushing touchdown, Concudan would write to NFL saying "the decision should be reversed because it wasn't a passing touchdown."

If we won on a defensive touchdown, Concudan would write the same complaint because our offense didn't win the game.

BWAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA! What a phuqtard! You dont realize that the coach you are touting IS AN OFFENSIVE GUY! He is only one sided, he will not let anyone call plays he would be the offensive coordinator. That was the biggest complaint against him!

Wow, you are a mess....

    Most teams?
I will bite, who are these most teams. Name a HC and you can in less that one minutes divine if he is a defensive minded coach or an offensive minded coach. Coughlin, doing great, but it is his defense first and foremost. The DC there is an understudy.

It is rare that you have a scheme neutral HC that lets the coordinators run with the ball.

In theory I agree with you gramps, I just dont think it makes it into practice that often.

People expected him to make the Ravens into to an offensive machine BUT I say "winning is winning regardless of how it's done."

    Regular season 80-64-0
    Postseason 5-3
    Super Bowl Title 1

You just don't like it because you didn't think of it first!!!

To get a good QB? He was not the GM.

Either way, he'd have an excellent QB to work with here!!!

A head coach does not have any input into his team? An offensive genius has no input into his teams QB?

Lame... You are too stupid to talk to. Welcome to ignore Foreskin neck (copyright Chuck F)

As I understand, he was invited but chose not to attend.
His last invite was an interview as OC for the Eagles. He chose not to attend.

Just like some people want Cowher but does he want to coach?
Either might consider to have this team!!!

What you're basically saying though, is you want ANY coach who has won a superbowl title. right?

Norv is not inspiring these players. I thought he would after last season, but I was wrong.

    Coaches on the short list...
    Mike Heimerdinger, Offensive Coordinator
    Jim Schwartz, Defensive Coordinator
    Ron Rivera, Defensive Coordinator
    Rob Ryan, Defensive Coordinator
    Dick LeBeau, Defensive Coordinator
    Todd Haley, Offensive Coordinator
    Steve Spagnuolo, Defensive Coordinator

    Denny Green Hellz no.
    Brian Billick, not even!
Steve Marioochi (sp?) Maybe but not enthused.

My worry is there is some 'old friend' from Buffalo left out there.

Look at the team Barry was handed... They won back to back Super Bowl titles.

The team the Billick was haded has no winning season in franchise history.

You need to work on your comparisons!!

I say we give Rivera a shot.

    Let Pagano coach the defense.

Hire a creative modern offensive mind to coach the offense....no more of this 7 step drop on almost every pass and get your QB killed Norv Turner crap. Let Norv go get someone else's franchise QB killed.
